As an employee, your responsibilities will include sales invoicing, purchase invoices, credit control, expenses, processing subcontractor timesheets and payments, weekly bank reconciliation, VAT and CIS returns. Additionally, you may assist with management accounts, including accruals and journals, when possible.
To succeed in this role, you'll need construction industry experience and excellent communication skills to interact with individuals at different levels within the organization. Strong organizational and Excel skills are also required. Familiarity with CIS and VAT, as well as previous experience with Quick Books Online and Money Soft, is advantageous.
You will report daily/weekly on accounts progress to the operations director, identifying and mitigating any financial losses. Handling all HMRC matters in the UK is part of your responsibility. Weekly reporting on forecasting, budgeting, and overall cost control plan is also expected. Regular communication with clients, Quantity Surveyors, Office Managers, and Project Managers ensures the overall success of projects.
Other duties include ensuring goals and deliverables are met, maintaining up-to-date and complete paperwork, preparing status/progress reports for the client and operations director, leading accounts meetings, updating the risk log, and informing the operations director of key milestones. You may also be assigned additional appropriate responsibilities as a Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant.
Your proactive approach will involve identifying ways to improve efficiency and workmanship quality, fostering a productive working environment. Professional behavior in the office at all times, including conduct, is expected.
Specific tasks encompass checking and processing invoices, statements, and reconciliation for the Purchase Ledger; credit control, order administration, invoicing, and customer payments for the Sales Ledger; and bank account and VAT reconciliation for Banking. You will also manage petty cash, credit cards, and expenses. Assisting the Financial Controller, you'll be involved in quarterly VAT returns, monthly CIS returns, monthly management accounts, quarterly reporting, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting. All other finance and administrative works will also be part of your role.
This is a full-time position with a salary range of £30,000.00-£32,000.00 per year. We offer casual dress, company events, a company pension, and on-site parking. The work schedule is Monday to Friday.
Applicants must have accounting and bookkeeping experience, preferably with knowledge of LTD and the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). Reliability in commuting to or willingness to relocate to Ilford is required.About us

- Ensure all the paperwork is fully up to date and complete.
- Prepare overall status/progress reports and update the client and operations director weekly.
- Arranging and leading accounts meetings weekly.
- Amend and update risk log as necessary and keep the operations director in the loop.
- Report directly to operations director on key milestones as soon as such milestones have been achieved.
- Any other responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate in capacity as Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant.
- Proactively identify ways to improve efficiency/workmanship quality and maintaining a productive working environment.
- Uphold and maintain a professional behaviour in office at all times including conducts.
- Purchase Ledger - Checking, processing invoices, statements & reconciliation.
- Sales Ledger -Credit Control, administering orders, invoicing, and customer payments.
- Banking - Bank account and VAT reconciliation.
- Manage petty cash, credit cards, and expenses.
- VAT Quarterly VAT returns - assisting the Financial Controller.
- Monthly CIS returns and chasing for outstanding documentation.
- Monthly management accounts, quarterly reporting.
- Budget & Forecast of cash flow - assisting the Financial Controller.
- All accounts/finance administrative works but no limit to.
