Four Square Scotland is an Edinburgh charity working for more than 40 years to prevent homelessness and promote inclusion. We provide services directly to people who are homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness to overcome any barriers they may face in creating a stable life for themselves in their community. As a social enterprise, our café plays a dual role in generating income and providing volunteering opportunities and career development for individuals who have faced homelessness in Edinburgh.
About the role
We are looking for someone to join the existing team to help run all day-to-day operations of our cafes whilst also providing support with on-site supervision to our volunteers. This role will involve customer service, food and drink preparation, general café tasks, ordering, and additionally supporting and mentoring our volunteers within the café. The successful applicants are proactive, can work flexibly and efficiently, as well as having a calm and compassionate nature.
KEY DUTIES
- Hot drinks preparation
- Food preparation, including takeaway
- Stock management and ordering
- Opening and closing the café
- Cash handling
- Customer service
- Maintaining health and safety standards, including completing necessary records
- Assist with training new and existing staff and volunteers
- Delivering training activities one-to-one to our volunteers to achieve independence in multiple areas of café work and increasing their employability
- Communication with the whole team in order to ensure continuity
- Carry out any other duties within the general scope of the post, as directed by the Manager/Assistant Manager

· Previous work experience in a kitchen environment is essential.
