JOB VACANCY – COMMUNITY CAFÉ MANAGER
Jo Vipan, our current manager of Molly’s Café, has decided it’s time to seek new challenges and we are recruiting a replacement full time manager to have overall responsibility for the day to day operation of the café.
The café has a variety of challenges which the successful candidate will have to deal with. These include increasing the café’s patronage and profitability whilst maintaining its excellent reputation for providing a welcoming community space for a wide range of people who seek its support.
There is uncertainty about the café’s long term occupation in its current location but the directors are actively engaged in, and committed to, ensuring that it has a long-term future in the village where it provides a vital community service. It is for this reason, that initially, this post is being offered on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. We very much hope that a successful candidate will be with us for considerably longer.
Reporting to the Directors, and supported by a team of sector specialists in community, volunteer management, catering and financial control, the manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulations relating to food safety, staff and volunteer management including safeguarding whilst maintaining the café’s welcoming atmosphere.
We are therefore seeking someone with experience in the food and beverage sector with a proven track record in having managed a similar operation with demonstrable positive results. You will bring ideas, inspiration and an holistic approach to the management of the café to help the directors and volunteers achieve the objectives of the café – ‘To create a sustainable and welcoming community facility for everyone, where they can enjoy healthy food and drinks in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.’

MOLLY’S COMMUNITY CAFÉ - 44 West Street, Steeple Claydon
Job Title: Community Café Manager.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week over 5 days initially, Monday – Friday. Working week flexibility can be offered and agreed with Directors. Job share can be considered.
Responsible to: Director Group, Claydon Community Café CIC.
Purpose: To manage, promote, and develop Molly’s Community Café with a team of volunteers and a small number of paid staff, to provide a community hub for Steeple Claydon.
Key responsibilities:
· To manage the community café, the staff and team of volunteers, successfully.
· Ensure that all staff and volunteers have current Food Hygiene Certificate and training,
· Ensure all food preparation follows Food Hygiene rules and legislation.
· To develop a selection of food offerings meeting customer needs, presented in an appealing way
· To supervise, prepare and cook a variety of food to be served to customers.
· Ensure a range of activities/offers in the café to attract people and to promote the café to the community,
· Order stocks and supplies at competitive prices.
· Undertake accurate cash handling and balancing of the till at the end of each trading day.
· Ensure appliances are working correctly and can be operated by staff and volunteers.
· Ensure a welcoming atmosphere to customers and volunteers, which provide high levels of service.
Person specification:
Essential:
· Current Level 3 Food Hygiene and Safety Supervisors qualification or commitment to achieve qualification before appointment.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Some knowledge and experience of the hospitality sector.
· Good organisational skills.
· Ability to cook and prepare a range of food.
· Able to understand and deal with staff and volunteers sensitively and in confidence.
· Capable of working under pressure.
· Ability to manage budgets and experience of working within budgeting constraints.
· Demonstrable commitment to supporting the café’s role in the community.
Desirable:
· Flexibility to ensure the café has the required level of supervision and staffing during all opening hours,
· Knowledge of social / community enterprise,
· BTEC qualification in catering, retail or hospitality.
Terms and conditions:
This is a contract for 37.5 hours per week, offered initially on a fixed term basis for 12 months. This will be reviewed as soon as the café’s long-term future is known. The appointment will be confirmed after an initial 3 month probationary period.
The café opening hours are currently 09.00 - 15.00 Mon, Weds and Friday, 09.00 – 17.00 on Tuesday and Thursday and 09.30 – 16.00 on Saturdays.
The postholder is expected to cover the hours 08:30 to 16:30 including provision for 30-minute lunch break (unpaid)
The post will include 20 days holiday per annum plus Bank holidays.
The salary is £23,500 per annum gross. This will be paid monthly on the last working day of each month.
