About CIR
The Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) is an independent, non-profit social enterprise dedicated to exposing human rights abuses and war crimes, countering disinformation and combating online behaviour harmful to women and minorities. We achieve these goals through open-source research, digital investigations, building the capacity of local partners, and collaborating with media to amplify the impact of our work.

Contract length: ASAP until end of March 2025

Role’s responsibilities
The editor will be responsible for providing substantive editing and proofreading services for a range of materials including complex public reports, research documents and presentations. This role requires close collaboration with the project’s senior editorial lead to ensure deadlines are met efficiently and to the highest standards. The editor will maintain the quality, consistency and accuracy of all documents, while supporting content and workflow management.

Working Arrangements:
This is a full-time role contract until March 31, 2025. The tasking is expected to be entirely remotely based, although some in-person events with international travel are planned which the role holder would be expected to attend.

Key responsibilities
Writing and editing:
- Provide substantive editing and proofreading for a variety of materials, including complex public reports, research documents and presentations
- Restructure and rewrite content as necessary to improve readability
- Ensure correct spelling, grammar and syntax, maintaining the authors' writing style
Quality assurance:
- Maintain consistent style and format throughout documents
- Eliminate repetition and inconsistencies
- Ensure appropriate positioning and numbering of boxes, figures and tables
- Ensure complete and consistent footnotes, sources and references
- Review annexes thoroughly to highlight incomplete areas and ensure consistency
- Prepare a complete table of contents and acronym list for each document
- Proofread designed layout files to ensure they are print-ready
Coordination and workflow management:
- Work with the project’s senior editorial lead to ensure deadlines are met
- Support content and workflow management by coordinating with investigators and team members
- Maintain an updated database of sources, references and relevant literature
- Ensure adherence to project guidelines and standards set by the editorial lead
Educational background:
- Bachelor's degree. English, Journalism, Communications or a related field preferred but not essential, other specialisms will also be considered.
Professional experience:
- Experience in writing, editing and proofreading complex publications and research reports, or similar
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering high-quality results
Technical skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Familiarity with document formatting and design software (e.g., Adobe In Design)
- Strong understanding of style guides (e.g., AP)
Core competencies:
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements
Interpersonal skills:
- Ability to coordinate with various stakeholders, including investigators and team members, remotely, to ensure smooth process from draft to publication
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex editorial tasks
Additional requirements
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Strong ethical standards and professional integrity
- Familiarity with publication guidelines and standards programme management.
