Freelance Wellbeing Coordinator
We’re looking for a freelance Wellbeing Coordinator to provide support sessions for adults experiencing mental ill-health in southeast England.
Our service users come to us with a range of circumstances that lead to poor well-being. This includes unmanaged mental ill-health, poverty, financial concerns, poor quality housing, family breakdown, domestic abuse, loneliness and isolation. Many are very vulnerable.
Your role is to understand their needs and provide person-centred support through emotional support, guidance, advice, signposting, and weekly phone calls.
What will I be doing?
  • Provide 1-to-1 wellbeing support to service users using an empathetic and holistic approach over the phone.
  • Conduct initial triage with service users to screen their eligibility for support.
  • Adopt an outcome-focused approach to encourage self-management of mental health.
  • Signpost and refer service users to local organisations to provide wrap-around support.
  • Manage risk and identify any safeguarding concerns following safeguarding policy
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including the commissioning organisation, local authorities, voluntary and community-based organisations, and statutory services.
  • Generate reports on service user outcomes to track progress and identify any operational risks.
  • Maintain and organise clinical and administrative documentation per record-keeping and data protection policies.
  • Report to the Project Portfolio Manager on key results and project progression.
Practical Considerations:
Place of Work: Remote
Hours: Flexible (8 hours per week)
Salary: £15 - £20 per hour
Contract: Freelance (ad hoc basis)
Working Pattern: Flexible working patterns - weekdays (can include evenings)
What knowledge and experience will I need?
Qualifications:
  • Mental Health First Aid or similar (D)
  • Qualification in counselling, talking therapies, or mental health practitionership (D)
  • Safeguarding training (E)
Experience:
  • Experience working with people dealing with mental health issues (E)
  • Previous experience working in a pastoral, wellbeing role, or similar (E)
  • Experience working or volunteering in community spaces / non-profit environment (D)
Knowledge:
  • Understanding of community / social issues in southeast England which may negatively impact mental wellbeing (E)
  • Psychologically informed and understanding of how mental health/wellbeing issues present and strategies for self-management of these symptoms (E)
  • Understanding of public services and local authority support for citizens (DWP, social services, disability rights, housing rights etc) (E)
  • General knowledge of standard administration, note taking, and record-keeping practices (E)
Skills:
  • Able to build rapport with service users (E)
  • Able to pick up on context clues and build trust with service users (E)
  • Excellent ICT skills, specifically Google Suite and case management systems (E)
  • Able to manage workload and meet deadlines (E)
  • Able to communicate with professionals and stakeholders (E)
  • Able to work incidentally and make decisions using initiative (E)

What is the project/organisation?
We are a community interest company based in the West Midlands. We develop and deliver projects around mindset development, financial literacy, and employability. We listen to communities and then build experiences around them. This includes mental health and wellbeing services, enterprise and business development programmes, community engagement, research and community insights, and bid writing and development.
We work with local authorities, statutory services, housing associations, education settings, non-profit organisations, and more to bring tailored programmes for defined communities.Our impact includes:
  • Designed a mental health pathway in the West Midlands to support 400+ people with free person-centred therapy (in partnership with Home Office + Violence Reduction Teams)
  • Provided mental wellbeing support to 10,000 households of a housing association in East + South East of England
  • Won the award of ‘Outstanding Service Provider 2023’ for Black Country Impact Programme
  • Delivered Dudley’s low-level mental health service to support individuals in self-management of mental ill-health and improve wellbeing
  • Through community-led research, our insights have influenced policymakers within the NHS, West Midlands Police, Police and Crime Commissioner, Violence Reduction Partnership, Birmingham City Council, Walsall Council, and more.
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance
Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 8 per week
