Geotechnical Engineer

The Role:
Our London office is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to form a key part of a growing geotechnical team. You will work with the Geotechnics Lead to support and grow the team, working closely with the other team member as well as independent geotechnical consultancy.
As such, the nature and type of work will be varied, ranging from the design of foundations and earth structures for temporary works through to the integrated design of deep basements and foundation solutions for tall buildings. Whilst the majority of our work is UK-based, we are an international practice and often work in other geographies. Knowledge and experience of geotechnical work in a more global context would be welcome.
The role will include a varied mix of responsibilities including:
- Independently drafting reports, specifications, and testing regimes, and preparing site investigations
- Deliver key tasks to agreed deadline and fee
- Contribute to the development of company procedures by taking an active role in the task
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and other professionals involved in the projects
- Develop effective geotechnical design solutions for a range of different scenarios and sectors
You will be a key member of the BG&E Engineering team, where you'll strengthen our skills and capabilities and provide support to our engineering and drafting teams.
As a successful applicant you’ll have:
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering or relevant fields ideally within an engineering consultancy or the construction industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills internally and with our clients
- Good ties with industry bodies and partners associated with geotechnics and foundations
- General understanding of embodied carbon studies, decarbonisation of materials, and sustainability initiatives in construction
- Interest and capability to take responsibility for projects
- Sound technical background and analytical skills relating too:
- Foundation solutions (e.g., deep foundations, rafts, piled rafts, etc.)
- Soil-structure interaction
- Deep excavations
- Retaining wall design and construction
- Earthworks.
- Be competent in the use of the following software packages
- MS Office
- Slope/W or equivalents
- Oasys XDisp
- Plaxis 2D/3D
- Wall AP or equivalent
- Settle 3D
- Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards and guidelines
- Ability to undertake work independently and work with other team members
- Be familiar with working at different stages of project design (concept, schematic, detailed, execution)
- ICE membership advantage
