We are looking to appoint an inspirational Head of Department to lead our amazing Science team.

Outwood Academy Ormesby can be found in the town of Middlesbrough in the north-east of England. Our goal is to continuously improve and become a leading academy in the region.

At our academy, we have highly trained staff and effective safeguarding measures in place to support all staff members. Additionally, the SLT and staff work together effectively to ensure that all students are actively engaged in their education.

We offer an exciting opportunity to lead a team of 7 teachers, a small group tutor and 1 technician across and age range of 11-16. You will have leadership experience, be determined and driven and have the ability to transform student’s lives. You will work alongside a fantastic team to continue to achieve the highest possible outcomes for students irrespective of their backgrounds or starting points.
The role of Head of Science at Outwood Academy Ormesby would be ideal for either an experienced Head of Department or someone looking to make that next step. You will be supported extensively by a team of Science Directors allowing you to strategically lead the department, whilst having the support and advice from the Director team. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to lead a progressive department and be pivotal in shaping their journey to world class. You will be supported within the department by a 2nd in Science.
The department is now in a position of being fully staffed with all specialisms, it needs a leader who can look to improve outcomes. Hence this is a critical appointment for the Academy and is an exciting opportunity for you to move your career onto the next stage.
Our Science department is energetic and forward thinking. We thrive to inspire our students but find so often that they end up inspiring us!! We have a wealth of knowledge in the department and an array of 7 specialist teachers who are always willing to share their knowledge and support each other. We are proud of our team, our relationships with each other and our students.

We are an 11-16 academy based in the large, north-east town of Middlesbrough.
The academy received a good judgement in their 2017 Ofsted inspection. However in July 2022 the academy was given a notice to improve judgement. Leadership has significantly changed and a comprehensive improvement plan has been implemented to secure sustainable long term change for the academy. It is an exciting time to join the academy’s committed team and join them on this important improvement journey.
