JOB TITLE: Motor Transport Engineer (HGV)
REPORTING TO: Motor Transport Supervisor
HOURS OF WORK: 39 hours per week
Mon-Thurs 8.00 am – 4.30pm, Fri 8.00 am – 3.30 pm
SALARY: £35,994 effective 1st October 2024, plus additional £1,500 MT Standby Allowance

Our Motor Transport facility has a small team that maintains a fleet of almost 70 vehicles including vans, 4x4’s, tractors, runway sweepers and fire appliances. These vehicles are powered by petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. The work is varied, interesting and includes the use of up-to-date equipment and diagnostic tools.
Job Purpose:
- To deliver all aspects of the Motor Transport department’s services and ensuring that they are efficiently maintained; personal safety and good housekeeping standards are as per Company Polices and Procedures; and to offer excellent customer service at all times.
- To deliver a Quality Assurance system to ensure that the MT repairs and service standards are maintained to appropriate levels and comply with legislation.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. To work as part of a team maintaining all HGV’s and equipment belonging to BIA.
2. Ensure the servicing and MOT of all vehicles including fire engines.
3. Efficiently service and maintain all tractors and seasonal operations equipment.
4. Ensure that all MT records are accurate and up to date, including both MT database and paper records when working with these systems;
5. Ensure requisitions are raised on the accounting system, in a timely manner when required / requested;
6. Ensure the workshop is kept compliant with HSE requirements including disposal of oils, rags, materials etc;
7. Ensure that vehicle emissions are compliant with current emissions regulations;
8. Reporting and recording of first aid and accidents;
9. Recording of vehicle damage by photographs, database and email;
10. Promote, maintain and review high housekeeping standards for MT users.
11. To participate in a rota to ensure that cover or assistance is provided by MT at weekends and in extreme weather conditions including snow and emergencies, if necessary;
