We are based in our friendly office in Leigh, Lancashire but have members of the team who work remotely in other parts of the UK and across the world.
The Role
Our IT Support Administrator provides support to the Group IT Manager and is responsible for managing and maintaining an organisations IT infrastructure. The role will complete several tasks to ensure the smooth operation of computer systems, networks, and servers. It will be the point of escalation for all group IT queries that cannot be resolved by the Junior member of the team, including systems security queries, local and remote network troubleshooting, VM fleet management, and assisting our engineering team. We want to ensure that our solutions internally are the correct fit and provide a seamless service for our people to have the tools to do their best work for our customers. In all aspects of this role, there is a requirement for continued and regular reporting for quality management and project management support. In addition, there is a requirement for various forms of ongoing written, verbal and in-person communication to resolve any IT support issues.

The Role

Support
- Act as a second line contact for all internal group IT queries and requests. This could be via the phone, email or in person.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Conduct training sessions for users on new systems and technologies.
- Assist in the creation and updating of processes or user guides on systems and technologies.
- Support the People department in conducting checks of returning equipment from leavers as part of the Leaver process.
- Providing advice to colleagues about network security and the best computer usage practices.
- Update SLA tracker/log in accordance with the SLA – logging information including but not limited to: time to respond initially; time open; time closed; risk or priority; ongoing requirements etc.
- Assist in management of our M365 environment, including Exchange, Entra ID, and Share Point.
- Install, configure and maintain server hardware and software.
- Monitor and optimise system performance and availability.
- Perform regular system updates and patches.
- Manage existing Linux and Windows VM Fleet.
- Initialise new VMs following internal best practises.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Install, configure and monitor wireless network systems.
- Maintain network security measures including firewalls and VPNs.
- Administering data and network security for departments including system firewalls, antivirus, group policy and email security.
- Maintain IT security policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits.
- Configure Firewall NAT and ACL rules.
- Configure reverse proxy servers to handle inbound application traffic.
- Assist in management of backup strategies to ensure data integrity.
- Test disaster recovery plans.
- Restore data and systems in the event of hardware or software failures.
- Provide technical support for bespoke projects to support the IT Manager.
- Follow and maintain internal processes that belong to the IT department.
- Provide input on internal processes that may affect the IT Team.
- Ensure sufficient cover or resource for the team during workshops or annual leave, making sure that full handovers of outstanding technical queries are completed and communication to the business on who is covering during any leave.
- Keep up to date with and understand changes within the IT industry the technology market.
- Passion and enthusiasm for the technology industry and our part within it.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the working of Server Hypervisor Environments, LAN and WAN networks, Subnetting and VLANs, Computers and peripherals, SSL and IPSEC VPNs.
- Knowledge of system security and procedures for protecting the organisation’s data from intrusion or corruption
- Excellent communication and customer support skills
- Advanced knowledge about hardware and software configuration
- Experience of management of Linux and Windows environments
- Ability to prioritise tasks and create their work schedules with minimal supervision.
- Excellent troubleshooting, creative and technical problem-solving skills
- Experience of working in Smart Buildings Industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Relevant networking qualifications such as CCNA would be advantageous
- Experience managing docker environments would be advantageous
