Production Operative (Cable & Electronics)

Synatel is part of the Donelec Group, a world leading manufacturer of industrial electronics across a wide range of sectors, supplying to a global market.
Based in Norton Canes (Staffordshire), we currently have new vacancies for a Production Line Operator to boost our capability in the busy Production Operation.
Products are designed within the group and assembled in house using a variety of assembly and test methods. We have our own surface mount equipment and a well equipped, semi-automated machine shop.
The role has a broad and interesting remit covering all aspects of electronics assembly and in-line testing as well as the production of mechanical parts and other supporting activities.
Full job training will be provided and while experience is not essential in all areas, staff who do have prior experience of Cable Preparation / Electronics Assembly or other manufacturing processes will be at an advantage.
There are many aspects to the role and it is essential candidates are fully cooperative and willing to work in all areas of the business. Successful candidates may be expected to move around the business as often as is required whether that means extended periods in one area or multiple areas in one day.
The primary aspect of the role is within our Cable Preparation department. Using our cable cutting and stripping machines to prepare cable as per set specifications, soldering components as well as fitting heat shrink. The core tasks in this area are:
a) Using the cable cutting machine, checking existing settings to ensure the machine is set as per the job specification.
b) Using a variety of methods and equipment to strip and tin the cable cores within tight tolerances.
c) Soldering small components to cables producing strong, viable solder joints.
d) Fitting heat shrink to cable assemblies in a set location within a specified tolerance
e) Coiling cable within specified guidelines.
f) Loading cable reels on and off the machine as needed, moving cable stock from the warehouse into the production area.
g) Working efficiently and accurately, maintaining a high standard of work with attention to detail.
The role also requires the role holder to support the production department as needed, which could involve populating circuit boards, testing production units or assembling small electronic devices. These tasks can include (but are not limited to) the following;
a) Soldering components or cables onto circuit boards and preparing components.
b) Operating the solder flow machine.
c) Testing production units following step by step instructions.
d) Assembling and labelling production units.
e) Working within the potting room encapsulating units.
The above tasks are the key aspects of the role but, like any other role, it is not possible to specify every single task and requirement of the role and you are required to carry out any reasonable task required of you.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge requirements:
a) Essential
(i) Experience working in cable preparation or a production environment.
(ii) Experience with soldering.
(iii) A keen eye for detail and quality performance.
b) Desirable
(i) Ability to read technical drawings.
Our products require precision assembly of safety critical, high value products often using small parts. Meticulous attention to detail is essential as is a strong work ethic, self drive, motivation and sense of responsibility. We produce a wide variety of products and some batch quantities can be large and continued focus is needed for repetitive assembly. Equally, fully attention is required where products are new, batch quantities small and there is an urgent requirement for prompt delivery.
Candidates must fully appreciate the importance of quality and expect to produce the highest quality work from the first to last board in a batch, every time.
37.5 hours per week, 5 days (Mon to Fri) between 7:30am and 4:30pm
12:30 Friday finish
30 days holiday (includes bank holidays)
