Climate Policy Initiative

Program Associate / Senior Program Associate, Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance

London

October 25, 2024

ABOUT CPI
CPI is an analysis and advisory organization with deep expertise in finance and policy. Our mission is to help governments, businesses, and financial institutions drive economic growth while addressing climate change. CPI has seven offices around the world in Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States (San Francisco and Washington D.C.)

CPI is known as a leader in tracking sustainable investment trends, identifying innovative business models, and supporting the solutions that can drive the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient, inclusive economy. We are unique in our focus on finance, our ability to get the right people to the table, and our analytical rigor.

ABOUT THE CITIES CLIMATE FINANCE LEADERSHIP ALLIANCE

Trillions of dollars will be required to help cities build the low-emissions, resilient infrastructure necessary to combat and react to climate change. The Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA) is the only multi-level and multi-stakeholder coalition aimed at closing the investment gap for urban subnational climate projects and infrastructure worldwide. CCFLA was launched at the United Nations Secretary General’s Climate Summit in September 2014 and renewed at the United Nations Secretary General’s Climate Summit in September 2019, when the Secretariat was handed over to CPI.

Today, CCFLA has 84 Members committed to deploying finance for city-level climate action at scale by 2030. Its members represent many of the world’s largest city and subnational networks (C40, ICLEI, UCLG, GCOM, among others), major public and private financial institutions (World Bank, AFD, KFW, among others), governments, and international organizations.

CCFLA engages its members in knowledge, collaboration, and advocacy activities aiming to help close the urban climate finance gap. More specifically:

  • Knowledge: CCFLA produces practical knowledge products that can help Members advance solutions to close the urban climate finance gap.
  • Collaboration: CCFLA fosters connections and cooperation among Members engaged in scaling investments in urban climate infrastructure.
  • Advocacy: CCFLA uses its expertise to inform international discussions and amplify messages from our members on the main climate forums.
Over the past five years, CPI’s work in the urban and urban infrastructure sectors has experienced significant growth. As part of our key priorities, we're launching workstreams related to urban adaptation and resilience finance, private sector, and public finance and national governments, aimed at catalysing investment in urban climate finance.
To ensure the success of these endeavours, we are seeking an individual who can contribute to shaping and supporting the production of vital deliverables under these workstreams and more broadly across CCFLA, advancing our mission to address climate challenges within urban environments.

POSITION SUMMARY

CPI is seeking a dynamic, highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated individual to join our CCFLA team. You will work in close cooperation with a range of national and international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with CPI teams throughout the world. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to build their career in project management in the international urban development and/or climate finance arena.
Day-to-day tasks will include a range of activities including overseeing grant and project management processes across CCFLA workstreams; planning and executing membership and external engagement events; overseeing workplans for and contributing to CCFLA analytical products, action groups, and workstreams; grant reporting; and managing relationships and collaborative working with CCFLA Members and stakeholders. Ultimately, this individual will play a crucial role helping CPI both shape and execute the CCFLA as a high-impact and highly relevant initiative.
We are looking for candidates at the Program Associate or Senior Program Associate level, with the level depending on the experience of candidate as evaluated by CPI. The primary responsibilities may vary depending on the level of the selected candidate.
