MUFG’s sustainability programme in EMEA is formed of five workstreams: ESG Business Coordination and Strategy, Risk Management, Policy and Advocacy, Corporate Sustainability, and ESG Disclosures. The five workstreams are responsible for driving MUFG’s sustainability objectives in EMEA while managing associated risks.

To ensure the EMEA sustainability programme has appropriate governance in place, work has started to document and where required develop action plans to enhance frameworks across a range of sustainability topics.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Human Right Project Manager will bring together a multifunctional team to deliver a step change in MUFG’s ability to demonstrate our commitment to human rights, supporting the CHRO for EMEA as Accountable Executive.

Project Objectives
  • Embed the responsibility to respect human rights into our culture, knowledge and practices
  • Identify and understand our most salient and/or severe risks to human rights
  • Systematically address human rights risks and provide remedy, where needed
  • Engage with stakeholders to inform our approach to addressing human rights
  • Report on our key human rights risks and meet all regulatory reporting requirements

Project Deliverables
  • (Analyse) Use the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a baseline to analyse existing MUFG commitments and benchmark against external and peer landscape and define topic scope to complete a full gap analysis. Understand key relevant regulations and evaluate their impact on project scope e.g. CSDDD, CRSD, Modern Slavery Act, ISSB.
  • (Define) Finalise definition of sub-topics, set clear goals and develop a full action plan with timelines. Engage key stakeholders and agree accountability for deliverables. Define resource requirements to feed into FY25 budget planning.
  • (Identify) Use sub-topics to identify MUFG's key Human Rights risks, design controls and agree approach to testing/QA.
  • (Implement) Implement the Human Rights Framework, including any/all necessary governance frameworks, set policy and determine policies/procedures. Identify all reporting requirements.
  • (Communicate) Create all internal/external communication materials including policy statement, client engagement communications, supplier engagement communications and employee comms. Design & deliver on all employee training requirements.
  • (Transition) Develop a framework to transition all activities into BAU: Assess the need and/or create business justification for ongoing resource requirements, determine future state ownership/accountability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initiate, lead, coordinate and implement a Human Rights Framework for MUFG EMEA in line with our EMEA Corporate Sustainability Programme and MUFG Group Sustainability Strategy (including group policy frameworks), and oversee its subsequent transition into BAU activities.
  • Act as a Human Rights SME for MUFG. Conduct a full internal and external Human Rights research and benchmarking exercise and produce a detailed GAP Analysis in order to inform future project scope and priorities.
  • Define project scope, develop and manage a full project plan, monitor progress, and document project deliverables and associated timelines. Hold key stakeholders and topics owners to account for executing responsibilities and deliverables within agreed timelines.
  • Oversee the process of identifying MUFG’s most salient Human Rights risks, utilising existing frameworks to track action plans, mitigation efforts, controls & testing across all sub-topics and for employees, suppliers and clients.
  • Own and execute on the development of a full Human Rights Framework for MUFG, design a plan and timeline for implementation including the development of governance framework, policy, process.
  • Identify and consolidate all Human Rights related reporting requirements and determine process, procedures and templates for completion and publication.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders and sub-topic owners to deliver on their project deliverables, providing guidance as necessary to ensure deliverables are completed in line with the project’s objectives and timeline.
  • Develop and coordinate a communication & training strategy to upskill MUFG employees on the Human Rights Framework, working with colleagues to ensure employee communications are delivered in a clear and engaging way.
  • Establish a plan for, and oversee the transition of, the completed Human Rights Framework and associated activities into BAU post implementation.
  • Ensure the smooth execution of deliverables across all stages of the project are tracked & executed to a high standard.
  • Mitigate, manage, and escalate risks and issues relating to the project to the Accountable Executive and key stakeholders, as necessary.
