The Barrington Boar is seeking a passionate & experienced Assistant Restaurant Manager with a hands-on, proactive approach, to join their growing team as the business expands.
The Restaurant
The Barrington Boar is an award-winning country pub & restaurant with four bed & breakfast rooms, offering Modern British cooking & refined comfort food in the heart of the South Somerset countryside.
Husband & wife team Alasdair Clifford & Victoria Collins took over the reins of The Barrington Boar in June 2018 & have created a restaurant & pub that is both casual & contemporary. The kitchen is run by Alasdair who grew up locally & has over ten years experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants including Chez Bruce & The Glasshouse.
The Barrington Boar features in the 2024 Top 50 Gastropubs (#35), the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2023, The Good Food Guide, Harden’s Guide & Trencherman’s Guide. The Sunday roast has been called one of the best in the UK by The Times.
The restaurant menu focuses on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from the farmers, foragers, brewers & cheesemongers living within a few miles of Barrington. The pub is also fully stocked with South West produce with a selection of local ales, ciders & craft beers on tap, local gins & English sparkling wines.
The Position
Assistant Restaurant Manager Requirements:

• The ideal candidate will have experience working in neighbourhood restaurants or gastropubs that have a strong emphasis on personable customer service.
• A welcoming & enthusiastic host that greets new customers as comfortably as they do pub regulars.
• A hard working, reliable & conscientious worker with a keen eye for detail & a positive attitude.
• Passionate about good food & dining experiences as well having a keen interest in wine & drink offerings.
• A strong understanding of what good service looks like.
• All applicants must have a proven & stable employment history.

The role will involve assisting the day to day management of the restaurant & bar including:

• Running food services as well as waitressing & bartending
• Working in a small team
• Organising staff rotas & training
• Managing reservations & customer communication
• Stock taking & ordering
• Helping promote & market the business
• Proactively working with the team to develop The Barrington Boar & help grow the business
• Working closely with the owner-operators to ensure high quality & standards of customer service
