Senior Cloud Architect
Who are we?
Planixs is the market-leading, Manchester-based Fin Tech that develops next-generation analytics and optimisation software designed to address the challenges around ‘Big Data’ in the Financial Services space. Established in 2011, we work with global financial institutions, in providing its award-winning product suite Realiti®, a cloud-based and on premise technology solution that delivers real-time intraday cash, collateral and liquidity management capabilities. Planixs was placed in the much respected Sunday Times Tech Track 100 (highest ranking Fintech business), and prior to that a finalist in the Northern Tech Awards 2018 (being the highest ranking Fintech business). The company was also recently awarded the Reg Tech of the Year accolade in the US Fin Tech Awards 2021.
Our Head Office is in the centre of Manchester, where we sometimes meet to kick off projects, for specific work events, or socials, it is of course open during office hours for anyone to use.
We have a growing client base, and are not only continuing to improve our core product, but also adding optional modules to enable functionality such as payment throttling, managing securities as well as cash, big data reporting and predicting payment profiles.
What’s the role?
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Architect to join our growing team. As a leader within our organisation, this role provides the opportunity to help to shape our product offering in key areas including security, availability and performance.
You will be responsible for owning the design of the infrastructure right from first engagement with the client, including cost estimates and customer facing documentation, right the way through to ensuring the implementation engineers have all the information they need to create a system or even upgrade an existing.
The role also includes supporting the CEO with technical assistance where required in order to support the delivery of the IT Strategy covering all client and internal systems.
The working environment is fast moving and dynamic as we continue to build our brand and be seen as a market leader, so you need to be comfortable delivering at short notice and creative in your solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the sales and implementation teams on understanding the client requirement, producing the initial designs, including the cost and scale models.
  • Own the documentation ensuring the engineers implementing and upgrading customer systems have the information they need.
  • To act as the technical approver for significant changes passing through the CAB
  • Producing, reviewing, and enforcing best practices for using Cloud and other build/deployment tools.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement across the teams and be an evangelist for this approach across the organisation.
  • Be the key advocate for ‘reference architecture’ where we identify 3 or 4 key systems with sizes, throughput and processing capability allowing us to easily cost and size systems in the future.
  • Ensuring that we follow best practice to help ensure that our systems are safe and secure against security threats.
  • To act as a technical escalation point for different teams to help resolve incidents and problems where needed
  • Work closely with the rest of the Planixs organisation to ensure they have the right tools as efficiently as possible
Skills and Experience:
  • Significant experience with a diverse set of technologies, including various programming languages and engineering concepts, operating systems, storage, networking, virtualisation and automation.
  • Strong Linux system administration skills, scripting, scheduling etc
  • Significant experience building and maintaining “configuration as code” infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines (Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Helm)
  • Knowledge or experience in messaging and integration technologies such as IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, Apache Kafka etc.
  • You have a good working knowledge of Cloud based platforms (AWS essential, certification preferred).
  • The ability to learn quickly in a dynamic and fast moving environment.
  • A general inquisitiveness regarding technology and changes in the industry and a continual learner who is constantly seeking improvement and looking to share their experience with others.
  • Strong communication skills with experience of talking to external clients.
  • Preferred experience of software delivery within financial services.
