Senior Network Engineer

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Network Engineer to join our Networks Team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, scaling and maintaining the growth of Network infrastructure, and support customer escalations from the service desk.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll lead and take part in projects.
You should have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar capacity within an ISP environment.
Role does operate a hybrid office environment.
On occasion you will be support changes and project work which may fall outside standard Mon-Fri and participate in an on-call rota to response to critical core incidents.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain core infrastructure resilience and reliability
- Suggest improvements to network performance (capacity, scalability and resilience)
- Provide technical input into core projects and able to lead
- Review and improve B2B technical solutions, such as multi-tenanted customers.
- Work with Customer Support Team Lead with technical handover guides for new/existing products
- Able to assist the Customer Service Team (CST) with incident investigation where applicable to core network
- Resolve issues escalated from CST.
- Ensure all change activity on the Core Infrastructure platforms adheres to internal Change Management policies
- Perform technical assessments, testing, and proof of concept to validate new designs
- Willing to travel for remote network deployments/maintenance when required. (DC & Exchanges & Cabinets)
- Contribute to improvement of processes within the department
- Support RFIs/RFPs for new technology and services
- Build successful relationships with other teams across the business
- Work up and down the organisation and influence others to achieve desired results
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
- Extensive experience in supporting carrier grade network infrastructure
- Experience in setup and managing Peering and Transit peers including Capacity Management
- A varied background working in an Engineering and/or Design team
- Expert knowledge and experience with network technologies (routing/switching/security) - L2 and L3VPN, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, L2TP, 8021Q/Qin Q
- Experience working in a multi-vendor environment (Cisco/Nokia – Preferably Juniper – MX / EX / QFX platforms)
- Experience with Fortinet Fortigate (NGFW), end to end capabilities.
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools – DDo S mitigation techniques
- Exposure to Cloud platforms (Saa S, Iaa S)
- Working experience of optical transmission equipment (transceivers, C/DWDM, test equipment)
- Fortinet NSE 4/7 certified
- Excellent understanding of UK access products including Openreach EAD and Optical transport including DWDM.
- AWS experience
- Understanding of emerging network technologies including SDN, SD-WAN and automation technologies
- Understanding of ISP systems stack – RADIUS, SMTP, DNS.
- Openreach FCP, EBD and Cablelink
- Working with -48VDC Telco Power Systems
- XGS-GPON, GPON exposure, any vendor.
- Fortigate - Forti Analyzer & Forti Manager
- Good operational knowledge of Linux OS
- SNMP application experience e.g. PRTG, Nagios, Solarwinds, Observium, Cacti
- Wi Fi experience
Pay: £50,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
