JOB TITLE
Principal / Senior Su DS or Civil Engineer(dependent on experience)
JOB PURPOSE
The consultant will work from one of the EPG offices or remotely as well as completing site visits.
As a Su DS/Civil Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of sustainable urban drainage systems (Su DS), undertake Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), and develop detailed drainage designs for a range of projects. This role requires a proactive approach, technical expertise.
Engagement with clients at an early stage to anticipate their needs and scope and price the required geo-environmental works for EPG.
Project manager for Su DS and Civils designs produced. Liaising with internal EPG staff and teams, external sub-contractors, clients and collaborators as necessary.
EPG will support the professional development of the consultant, providing opportunities to work collaboratively with the wider team to gain experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Lead the design, specification, and implementation of sustainable urban drainage systems (Su DS) for a variety of projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments.
2. Conduct and review Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) in compliance with current UK legislation and planning policy.
3. Develop and review detailed drainage designs using appropriate software (e.g., Micro Drainage, Civil 3D, Info Drainage).
4. Manage and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and ensuring the delivery of high-quality design work.
5. Prepare technical reports, design documents, and project proposals.
6. Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices, national standards (e.g., CIRIA Su DS Manual, Building Regulations), and company quality assurance procedures.
7. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
8. Stay updated on the latest developments in Su DS, drainage design, and water management policies and standards.
9. Maintain and develop key client, supplier and regulator relationships, always maintaining EPG’s industry standing as experts in our field, and providers of cost-effective and scientifically robust solutions.
10. Relish opportunities and work proactively when undertaking research in the course of work at EPG. Contribute to, or lead on, development of alternative methods of working, or writing industry publications.
11. Support the EPG management team in improvements to our operational practices, in areas of data management, digital software, health, safety, environment and quality, and training and staff development.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Default would be full time, 8:45am – 5pm Monday to Friday. Could consider 4 days per week or flexible working if required for right candidate.
LOCATION
Bingley or Warrington or Basildon or remote (depends on successful candidate).

PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or another related subject.
- Minimum of [5-10] years of experience in Su DS design, flood risk management, and drainage design.
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
- Proficient in the use of drainage design software (e.g., Micro Drainage, Civil 3D, Info Drainage).
- In-depth knowledge of UK Su DS legislation, planning policies, and design standards (e.g., CIRIA C753).
- Strong project management skills, including experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports, drawings and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.
- A desire to take a novel approach to problem solving.
- Excellent word processing and excel skills along with broad IT proficiency.
- A full UK driving license.
- Experience with Tuflow, ICM or another 1D/2D hydraulic modelling package.
- Experience undertaking strategic flood risk assessments.
- Experience as a line manager.
- A strong external profile and network and/or experience on working groups or committees in the industry.
- Experience managing commercial performance of multi-phase consultancy projects.
