Trainee Machine Operator (Late Shift)

Job description
Challenge Packaging is a specialist in corrugated packaging design and manufacture. We work hard to ensure our cardboard box supply is as efficient as possible and extend that methodology into packaging supplies to offer a full service to our customers
We have one vacancy for a Trainee Machine Operator working 48 hours per week (working hours are between the hours of 5:00 PM and 6:00 AM, Monday to Thursday with one-hour break). Trainee Machine Operators are offered a clear progression path to Qualified Operator usually within 6 months. Excellent Employee Benefits including Private Healthcare.
General description of the job
Manufacturing of Corrugated cases is a busy, time critical process which requires hardworking, reliable individuals. You will be required to run assigned machines which operate and produce various styles of boxes. You may also be required to assist on other machines during busy periods. The position also requires a substantial amount of manual handling you will need to be fit and have good health & safety awareness

Main duties
- Set up machines at the beginning of shift to ensure good working order
- Perform all necessary safety checks at the beginning of each shift
- Perform testing of quality throughout and optimize throughput during the production run to hit targets
- Report on set up, run time and down time through shop floor data
- Monitor machines during every run to ensure optimum running speeds
- Maintain, clean and recalibrate machines at the end of each shift
- Operate pallet jacks and other production equipment
- Maintain a safe working environment that is always free from the build up of waste material
- Provide relevant information relating to progress to Production Manager
- Report any defects, near miss or Health & Safety issues to the Production Manager
- To maintain standards in line with the requirements of the job and any policies currently in place
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined by a Director from time to time
- To comply with equal opportunities legislation and be pro-active in challenging prejudice and discrimination
- To adhere to the procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility
- Cover other shifts to meet the needs of the business from time to time
- Good level of Health and Safety
- Ability to listen, learn and take instruction (written and verbal)
- Excellent attention to detail and good understanding of quality issues
- Good Math skills and ability to calculate measurements
- Reliable with good time keeping skills
- Physical stamina with understanding of manual handling
- Basic computer skills and understanding of technology
- Flexibility - Willing and able to work other shifts from time to time
