Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. Advisor, Advancing Success in Associate Pathways
Full-Time Grant Funded HV-MC-8598

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Reporting to the ASAP Director or designee, the ASAP advisor is a member of an integrated college team providing individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of community college students as they progress through the program.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of post-secondary academic advisement or counseling experience, or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and 6 months of experience in an advising or counseling capacity or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in higher education;
  • Strong understanding of the needs of freshmen and transfer community college students.
  • Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office; and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
Preferred:
  • Previous experience and/or desire to engage in non-traditional advisement delivery systems (including on-line advisement);
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Demonstrates ability to work well with faculty and administrators.
Nature and Scope of Duties:
  • Delivers comprehensive planning, advisement and support to all ASAP students through degree completion.
  • Regularly consults with academic program and advising administrators.
  • Evaluates transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson and supports the chairperson with degree clearance, previously completed courses, and pre-requisites for students.
  • Acts as liaison with student and academic support offices facilitating and tracking referrals and follow-through.
  • Facilitates evaluation for emergency funding and coordinates referrals to community agencies as necessary.
  • Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic and student support services.
  • Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
  • Performs data entry and maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student ad contributes to required grant reporting.
  • Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program.
  • Organizes and facilitates periodic special events and programs for students and faculty and staff.
  • May conduct or support delivery of ASAP student seminars on issues of importance to students.
  • Represents the ASAP program at internal and external events and meetings.
  • Maintains working knowledge of college services, policies, and procedures affecting the academic success of the student – and refers students as appropriate.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
This is a full-time 12-month Grant funded, Management Confidential position with a salary range of $47,000.00-$52,000.00
