Overview:The Purchasing Manager is responsible for identifying, supporting, and executing strategic sourcing activities for Contract Manufacturing (Co Man) and Contract Packaging (Co Pack) spend at T. Marzetti. The categories can be complex and impactful from both a Supply Chain and overall company perspective. In this role, the Purchasing Manager will work with cross-functional partners in the ideation, development and launch of new products into Retail stores. The individual in this position should have a procurement background, with some sourcing experience or an ability to learn quickly. The individual should be detail oriented and have a drive to support the team to reach cost savings targets and ensure supply on categories impacting T. Marzetti.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the Finding, Vetting and Qualifying of new Contract Manufacturers (Co Mans) and Contract Packers (Co Packers)
  • Working on Stage Gate initiatives to insure Co Man/Co Pack is prepared to launch new initiatives
  • Analyzing the Cost Models (Bill of Materials) to insure accurate and best pricing,
includes Qtr price updates – verify supplier invoices
  • Support setting up new Co Mans/Co Packers – costing, suppliers and manufacturing
  • Working with Demand and Supply teams to coordinate the supply and inventories with the available capacity
  • Looking a future pinch points when demand outpaces supply – manage on a monthly basis when future gap is identified
  • Managing the attainment, throughput rates, Co Man/Co Pack schedules and capacities to ensure production/supply is available for transportation and receipt into DCs
  • Managing the Co Man/Co Pack operations to avoid customer shortages – working cross functionally with Supply and Transportation Teams
  • Lead the sourcing and negotiations at Co Mans/Co Packers, as well as day to day supplier and SKU management
  • Responsible for Co Man/Co Packer relationship management, includes detailed understanding of Co Man capabilities, contracts and capacity to help drive compliance and efficiencies
  • Lead the KPI monthly meetings with Co Man/Co Packer, working cross functionally with QA team on quality metrics
  • Support the Co Man/Co Packer innovation projects with sourcing, vetting and qualifying Co Man/Co Packer, includes site visits to fully understand operational and supply chain capabilities
  • Key contributor for Co Man/Co Packer strategies including analysis, negotiations and long-term vision
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to lead contract negotiations with Co Man and Co-Packers; develop negotiation methods and acceptable terms and conditions through contract completion.
  • Support the Sr. Director of Co Man with cost savings opportunities, strategies, cash flow improvement, negotiations, vendor change management and alternate supplier initiatives
  • This is both a strategic and a tactical position that requires forward vision and insight to be combined with data gathering and detailed step by step execution
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Preferred 4+ years of purchasing experience
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Strong written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and influence business decisions and change
  • High results-orientation
  • Travel is ~30% of the role
Working Conditions/Environment:
Works in a normal office environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, see, hear, sit, stand, talk, type, walk and bend while moving about the facility. The noise level in the office is quiet. Occasional travel to plants or meetings is required.
