About the Role As a Credentialing Lead in the Health Services Quality Assurance (HSQA) Division, you will play a key role in ensuring that health care professionals meet Washington State’s licensing standards. You will serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and support to both internal staff and external providers on complex and non-standard credentialing matters. This position helps maintain the integrity of health care credentials, which are essential to patient safety and access to care in Washington.
You’ll work on assessing, processing, and approving credentialing applications while addressing challenges related to evolving laws and procedures. Your input will shape how the credentialing process adapts to legislative changes and how it operates more efficiently across various teams. This position directly supports the Department’s mission to protect public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Credential Review: Evaluate and process health care credentialing applications, ensuring compliance with state regulations, laws, and departmental policies. Verify applicant details and resolve complex or non-standard licensing issues.
- Team Support and Training: Act as a technical consultant, providing guidance and training to credentialing staff on licensing laws and best practices. Address complex inquiries and serve as a mentor for junior team members.
- Process Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements to the credentialing workflow, focusing on enhancing efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth application processing and timely credential issuance.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records in the department’s licensing database, ensuring all credentialing data is up to date and compliant with regulations.
- Customer Communication: Respond to inquiries from applicants, legislators, and other organizations regarding credentialing processes and application status.

Location and Flexibility:
Required Qualifications
You must meet all the criteria listed below:
- Two (2) or more years of experience processing applications for a health profession or facility credentialing program.
- One (1) year or more of experience using the Integrated Licensing and Regulatory System (ILRS) database or similar licensing/regulatory database.
- Two (2) or more years of experience resolving customer inquiries, problems or complaints in a high production environment.

Six (6) months’ experience and an ability to use computer software as follows:
- Word processing software such as Microsoft Word to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents.
- Ability to use standard functions to select, edit, copy, paste, format, and spell check text.
- Electronic communications and calendar programs, such as Outlook, to compose, send, and respond to electronic mail, and coordinate schedules and schedule meetings.
- Electronic database system to update or maintain records.
- Accessing and searching the internet to find and download information
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional experience in health care credentialing.
- One (1) or more years of experience reviewing documents and taking action based on policy analysis.
- Associate degree or higher.
- Three (3) or more years of familiarity with DOH credentialing processes and regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

This position is covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) the exclusive representative.

- Commit to a full-time 40-hour workweek schedule (flexible work schedule requests must be approved supervisor).
- Communicate through applications such as MS Teams and MS Outlook, and by phone while working remotely.
- Adjust my work schedule occasionally to align with business needs, which may entail working evenings and weekends.
- Perform my job duties either remotely from home or in-person at the designated DOH site location.
- Travel occasionally, sometimes requiring overnight stays or trips out of state. You must be able to legally drive a vehicle or arrange alternative transportation for state business.
- Engage in emergency response exercises and high-priority assignments as assigned during emergency events.
