Director, A Place to Call Home

Core Hours: Mon – Fri; 8am-5pm
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
POSITION SUMMARY
A Place to Call Home aims for a Spartanburg County where homelessness is a solvable issue and everyone has a safe, secure place to call home. The Director is responsible for executing the A Place to Call Home action plan, working with partners and the community to identify and implement effective strategies. This role involves coordinating with diverse stakeholders to prevent homelessness, support those in need, and ensure access to affordable housing.
The Director reports to a leadership team comprised of the City of Spartanburg, County of Spartanburg, The Faith Initiative to End Child Poverty, One Spartanburg Inc., Spartanburg Housing, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, and United Way of the Piedmont.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Representation:
- Develop and facilitate the work of A Place to Call Home.
- Represent the collective effort in public speaking engagements, community meetings, and committees.
- Develop standard operating procedures and strategic work plans for the initiative, including setting agendas and collective goals.
- Establish a culture which values diverse perspectives and demonstrates respect for all.
- Identify and build partnerships with human service organizations, governmental agencies, financial institutions, businesses, nonprofits, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment and participation with the Upstate Continuum of Care.
- Serve as a liaison between A Place to Call Home and its partners.
- Provide leadership and support to the Leadership Team, Steering Committee, and any ad hoc or working groups.
- Supervise A Place to Call Home staff and manage resources, including budget and expenses.
- Identify and leverage community resources, including federal, state, and local grants and funding opportunities.
- Prioritize and allocate resources in collaboration with partners.
- Ensure alignment of systems, processes, and resources to meet intended outcomes and goals.
- Periodically measure and report on effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Strategic Spartanburg to collect, analyze, and share meaningful data.
- Translate data into understandable concepts and community reports.
- Monitor national and local changes in housing and homelessness to inform the work.
- Assist with fund allocation, research, marketing, public policy work, and developing agreements and protocols.
- Attend seminars, workshops, webinars, and conferences for personal development and training.
- Be prepared to work a flexible schedule, including some early mornings and evenings.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience: At least 5 years in facilitation, coalition building, or collective impact strategy, with experience in the housing and/or homelessness field preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of local housing dynamics, affordable housing, development, and funding mechanisms.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead meetings, facilitate discussions, and engage in public speaking.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present to diverse audiences and develop clear, effective messaging.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain professional relationships, work both independently and in teams, and persuade or influence stakeholders.
- Ethics and Integrity: High standards of reliability, accountability, confidentiality, and professional excellence.
- Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.
- Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability: Ability to manage shifting priorities and adapt to changing demands.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using personal computers and relevant software applications.
- Problem-Solving: Creative and resourceful in developing solutions, with strong negotiation and diplomatic skills.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret laws, legal documents, and procedures.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and access to transportation required.
- Attendance: Regular and sustained in-person attendance is necessary.
The City of Spartanburg will be the employer for this position, and the Director will receive City benefits. Candidates must pass a background check and drug screen to be considered for employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs light work that involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, walking, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 15 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

STANDARD CLAUSES
