Job Description:
The Oregon Department of Corrections has an Executive Support Specialist 1 position at our Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.
What are the job duties?
This position provides sole, confidential and independent administrative support to the Assistant Superintendent of Correctional Rehabilitation in providing effective management and supervision of Correctional Rehabilitation Services, Counseling Services, Adult in Custody Recreation, AIC Work Programs, AIC Grievance and Discrimination program, and a dotted line with Behavioral Health Services, Health Services, Law Library and Religious Services. This position's mission is to ensure that the Assistant Superintendent's office is run in an orderly manner.
This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of clerical/secretarial experience which includes one (1) year at a full performance level performing typing, word processing, or other generating of documents, and lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.
  • Courses or training in Office Occupations or Office Technology may be substituted for up to one year of the clerical/secretarial experience.

    No substitution will be made for the one year at the full performance level.

    The skill code sheet for classes 0107, 0112, 0118, and 0805 may be used (the original Support Services Skill Code Sheet).

Working Conditions
This position is located inside the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution and does encounter male AICs in the institution setting and may be exposed to hostile situations or incidents. You will work in an office environment where conversations and paperwork are generated of a sensitive nature daily and must possess the ability to keep this information confidential.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

About the Process – What to Expect

Requirements for Employment
The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
