Fiber Optic R&M Technician

Overview
We provide paid training, a company vehicle, full benefits, and tuition assistance.
- You will Install, repair, maintain, test proof or adjust, as needed, all fiber optic cables and related equipment
- You will climb utility poles and ladders
- You will lift and carry equipment that weighs at least 75 lbs
- You will use a variety of hand tools
- You will work in all types of inclement weather
- You will enter underground facilities and be able to use a shovel to uncover underground closures
- You will coordinate fiber activities with other departments and staff
- You will Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters
- You will terminate, splice, bond/ground, and test fiber optic equipment to customer standards
- You will provide accurate equipment location, splicing, and terminating records for the fiber database
- You will assist the Construction and Engineering departments
- You will build bays, racking, jumper ducts and other network elements
- You will monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber and/or fiber related equipment from Master Control to and through each HUB to the NODE.
- You will provision and install media converters
- You will serve as a technical resource for staff on all fiber related areas and technical procedures
- You must be available for any on call emergency coverage for fiber restoration year round
- You have a high school diploma or GED required or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- You have two (2) years experience with fiber optic cable technology, formal fiber optic training strongly desired.You have one (1) year of fiber optic cable splicing experience or completion of an equivalent training program
- You are authorized to work in the United States for this company
- You are able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- You are able to meet the safety requirement of the safety harnesses that are utilized for bucket trucks and climbing poles
- You possess the ability to work at ground level, crouch squat and sit. Install Network Interface units outdoors on customer premises
- You have a valid standard Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience
- You have an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
- You must have a good understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks
- You must have a working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations
- You must possess a good understanding of fiber documentation and have the ability to assist in laying out new fiber circuits
- You must be able to think analytically
- You have excellent customer presentation and service skills.
- You have the ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment.
- You have the ability to work well under pressure and deadline environments.
- You have the ability to translate highly technical information to end user customers and staff.
- You have the ability to communicate with other staff.
- You have the ability to handle on-call responsibilities
- You will act as a customer contact. Interface with customers and local supervisors to clarify project status
- You will learn new equipment software and interfaces to help expand business opportunities
- You work well within a team
- You have good written and oral communication skills
- You are adaptable to changing environments
- You will complete other duties as assigned.
- You must be able to work weekends and overnights
- You must be able to differentiate color codes
- You must be able to read and understand manufacturer’s manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components
- You are proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment.
