Summary
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary (USML) is the major seminary and graduate school of theology for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Mundelein Seminary is one of the largest priesthood preparation programs in the United States having graduated over 4,000 students since 1926 and serving nearly 30 dioceses in the United States and abroad.
Performs custodial maintenance duties, including but not limited to, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms. Assists the Lead Custodian with special projects and assumes Lead Custodian duties as may be required by business needs.
Essential Job Functions
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs general, routine grounds duties for campus-wide facilities to include but not limited to guest accommodation areas, chapels, recreation halls, and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Maintain all turf including seeding, edging, and mowing of lawns.
· Maintain athletic fields and tennis courts including nets, goals, striping and baseball dirt.
· Trim, prune, plant and maintain flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees.
· Removal and disposal of shrubs, tree and landscape debris as directed.
· Maintain ground department tools and equipment in a safe, neat, and orderly manner.
· Roadway plowing, sidewalk/stairway clearing of snow, apply snow/ice melt for safe use.
· Power washing and cleaning of sidewalks, railings, stairs, building facades, etc. as needed
· Transport supplies and materials as requested.
· Report required maintenance through work order system and/or to supervisor.
· Occasionally unload delivery trucks - reconcile materials received with Bill of Lading.
· Installation and removal of holiday decorations
· Move, rearrange, and organize furniture as requested.
· Occasionally provide remodel/demolition assistance.
· Pick up trash and debris from grounds, empty trash, and cigarette receptacles.
· Maintain stairwell and window well drains and sewers free from leaves and debris.
· Report suspicious person’s activities or events to supervision and/or security.
· Other duties as assigned by Immediate supervisor.
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
· Minimum 3 – 5 years of commercial landscaping/grounds maintenance.
· 3-5 years of commercial landscaping/grounds maintenance
· 3-5 years’ experience operating snow removal equipment (plows, salters, snowblowers, uniloader/skid loader, etc.)
· 3-5 years’ experience operating mowing equipment (gang-mowers, front mowers, zero-turn mowers, walk behinds, etc.)
· 3-5 years’ experience pruning trees and removing branches with gas-powered chainsaws of different lengths
· 3-5 years’ experience using motorized hedge trimmers, gas edgers and leaf blowers
· 3-5 years’ experience apply fertilizers and weed control preferred

· Ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, employees, visitors, and supervisors verbally.
· Ability to safely drive and operate department tools and equipment including hand power tools, riding and push mowers, tractors, plows, and trucks.
· Valid state driver’s license (valid MVR to be provided periodically)
· Basic Computer Skills & Email Skills. (Microsoft and Outlook)
·Neat in appearance.
·Strong interpersonal skills, friendly and personable.
·Ability to maintain composer and control emotions under stress, using tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
·Self-starter, self- motivated, little supervision required, punctual and reliable.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. PPE may be required when operating certain equipment.
· Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors.
· Exposure to adverseweather conditions (including rain, snow, cold and hot temperatures.
· Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.

Pay: $20.43 - $22.70 per hour
