Position Information

There are three (3) Heavy Truck Driver positions with the Department of Environmental Services, Refuse Collection & Disposal Division. Two (2) positions are located at Kawailoa Transfer Station and (1) one position is located at Kapaa Transfer Station. A Heavy Truck Driver II operates and maintains a heavy truck tractor and trailer with a factory-rated trailer capacity of 10 tons and over, or a heavy tandem truck and attachments with a factory-rated capacity of 10 tons and over, or the driving unit of a heavy mobile crane, as a regular, primary assignment in transporting a variety of cargo.

Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for the operation and limited maintenance of a tractor semi-trailer factory rated capacity of 20.9 tons.
• Operates the tractor semi-trailer to an assigned destination in an expedient and safe manner and discharges cargo at said destination.
• Returns the tractor semi-trailer to the point of origin for reloading and further dispatching.
• Checks the operating condition of assigned equipment with a pre-trip and post-trip inspection.
• Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle by steam cleaning and/or soap washing. Performs housekeeping for the inside of the cab and ascertains that all appropriate documents required by law are in the vehicle and current. Performs waxing, polishing, and touch-up painting where necessary and appropriate.

Special Working Conditions: Work hours for Kawailoa Transfer Station are 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Work hours for Kapaa Transfer Station are 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., four (4) days per week, 10 hours per day, three (3) days off, determined by seniority. Work environment conditions are obnoxious, nauseating and unsanitary. Exposed to heavy
atmosphere of fine dust and heavy moving equipment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the operation of heavy trucks.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
At the time of application, possession of a valid:
1. Commercial driver's license (CDL) with proper endorsements. (Current vacancy requires a valid CDL A.)
2. Current State Department of Transportation Medical Examination Certificate.
