The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance & Recreation Services Division, is looking to fill three (3) Pool Lifeguard vacancies the the following locations:
  • Kalihi Valley Complex
  • Kaneohe Complex
  • Makiki Complex

A Pool Lifeguard independently performs duties at a swimming pool to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress; and enforces pool safety regulations. Under the general supervision of the Recreation Director II (Swim), work duties include but are not limited to:
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the designated pool and performs lifeguarding tasks to include performing rescues and administering emergency life support measures applying immediate First Aid and CPR as needed and performs other related duties as required.
  • Monitors participants for compliance of rules and regulations applicable to the assigned pool and reports infractions to the proper authorities. Informs supervisor of all serious violations and incidents.
  • In the absence of the Pool Custodian, maintains safe operational level of pool chlorination and filtration systems.
  • Operates a light motorized vehicle to pick up/drop-off documents and supplies, and to attend training or meetings, as assigned. Operates a van to transport program participants to various sites, as assigned.

Special Working Conditions: Work hours may vary. Will conduct swimming rescues during emergencies; exposure to environmental and adverse weather conditions; exposure to the effects of pool chemicals, acids, and gaseous chlorine. Will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, at the time of application.
