National Sales Director – Gastroenterology East

Ardelyx is a publicly traded commercial biopharmaceutical company founded with a mission to discover, develop and commercialize innovative first-in-class medicines that meet significant unmet medical needs. Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA® (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH® (tenapanor). Ardelyx has agreements for the development and commercialization of tenapanor outside of the U.S. Kyowa Kirin commercializes PHOZEVEL® (tenapanor) for hyperphosphatemia in Japan. A New Drug Application for tenapanor for hyperphosphatemia has been submitted in China with Fosun Pharma. Knight Therapeutics commercializes IBSRELA in Canada.
The National Sales Director, IBSRELA will report directly to the VP, Sales and is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and leading a high performing national team. The National Sales Director will take the lead, in consultation with VP, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, and Commercial leadership, in developing and owning a robust sales plan to ensure Ardelyx’s sales goals are achieved.
  • Build, develop, lead, and retain a team of high performing sales leaders with the proven ability to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Create a results-driven, solution-oriented environment which holds every team accountable for delivering individual and organizational sales results.
  • Develop strategic business plans for sales execution and the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Provide each zone with direction, guidance, and support to ensure optimal execution.
  • Translate key financial drivers and other business analytics into specific and measurable action plans for each Zone.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to sales leaders to enhance their leadership and management skills, selling skills, product and disease state knowledge, customer targeting, time management, and resource allocation. Ensure each leader is effectively managing their team and resources.
  • Evaluate and provide input and guidance into key decisions, such as organizational changes, new positions, or expansions of the business.
  • Foster and reinforce a culture of compliance, ensuring that all sales activities and actions by members of the sales team comply with all laws and regulations and company compliance policies and procedures. Address performance issues promptly and consistent with company guidelines and policies.
  • Proactively engage with key customers, decision-influencers, decision-makers, and account groups to directly represent Ardelyx in a leadership capacity, promote Ardelyx products, and achieve company objectives.
  • Closely manage succession planning as well as ensuring identification and close oversight of internal talent and high potential performers to be developed for promotional opportunities.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 12 years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry commercial experience in Sales, Market Access, and/or Marketing.
  • Sales management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of specialty sales including nephrology and/or gastroenterology preferred.
  • Strong people management skills, with a proven track record of building and successfully leading and motivating high performing teams.
  • Proven leader with the ability to engage and inspire employees, foster collaboration, influence others and integrate functions, teams, people, processes, and systems to drive results.
  • Track record of leading territories with consistent achievement of sales goals.
  • Proven track record of direct facing customer activity as integral part of sales leadership role.
  • Product launch experience.
  • A thorough understanding of the laws, regulations, and Ardelyx compliance policies applicable to the sales and marketing of pharmaceutical products to physicians and healthcare organizations.
  • Experience in measuring performance of employees against established goals and objectives and effectively guide individuals through organization path based on interests, capabilities, and organizational needs.
  • Possess the strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate ideas and data, both verbally and written, in a persuasive and appropriate manner.
  • Strong clinical acumen to facilitate rapport and earn respect with key opinion leaders, healthcare stakeholders, and patient advocacy groups.
Work Environment
  • Remote position with frequent travel to our corporate office in Waltham, MA.
  • Expected 60% travel
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $260,000-$290,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
