Natural Resources Police Trainee - Fish & Wildlife & Parks

Introduction
Summary Statement
Two law enforcement trainee positions for the Fish and Wildlife Unit, duties will include crime prevention and detection, public safety, enforcement of all Delaware criminal and traffic laws, responding to calls for service, and enforcing Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Rules and Regulations. This position will be responsible for enforcing all applicable fishing, hunting, and boating laws, and regulations and promoting hunting safety and boating education. Position patrols by use of motor vehicle, foot patrol and vessel in varying weather conditions, responding to boating emergencies.
All officers will be expected to interact with the public promoting each units mission in a variety of settings, to include but are not limited to public presentations, school presentations, community events, and outside organizations.

Essential Functions
- Implements appropriate law enforcement action in response to complaints, traffic, criminal, regulatory and other activities.
- Investigates suspicious and criminal activity which includes detecting, collecting and preserving physical evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects and defendants, processing charging documents, executing search and arrest warrants and processing defendants.
- Performs vehicle and foot patrol of assigned areas.
- Performs community policing through informational presentations and educational seminars for other state agencies, schools, the public and community organizations.
- Provides protective services to state employees, visitors and the general public.
- Conducts surveillances and performs undercover assignments.
- Provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies as back-up or primary response.
- Takes into custody and transports felons and prisoners.
- Presents evidence and testimony and prosecutes cases in court.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of reports pertaining to response of an incident, daily activity and investigations.
- Calibrates, maintains and uses various technical instruments and equipment to determine safety compliance and operational readiness.
Job Requirements
- At least 20 and 1/2 years of age.
- Associates degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Sociology or related field.
- At least 20 and 1/2 years of age.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Six months experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings.
- Six months experience in applying natural resources laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Six months experience in narrative report writing.
Additional Posting Information
Incumbents working four or more hours of work between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. the following day will receive 5% shift differential pay.
Selected incumbent is eligible for Hazardous Duty Pay upon completion of the basic approved Police Officer Standards and Training Academy.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization). The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee. The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work-related purposes.
DNREC: For admission to a Police Officers Standards and Training Academy applicants who are made a conditional offer of employment shall be required to successfully complete State of Delaware approved psychiatric/psychological exam, medical examination and a physical ability test to demonstrate fitness for duty.
Upon completion of the POST Academy applicants must show proof of boater education (a state-issued card or NASBLA-approved certificate) or have successfully completed a NASBLA approved boating safety course and will be required to pass the DNREC/NRP Water Confidence Assessment. Applicants must also show completion of the Delaware Hunter Safety Course by the end of probationary period.
