Performance Based Opportunity
As part of our continuous efforts to optimize performance and drive success the Natural Resource Planner I is eligible for an annual promotion. The incumbent may advance to a higher grade within the classification series, based on satisfactory work performance.

Main Purpose of Job
The Natural Resources Planner I (NRP) is an entry level position within the Air Monitoring Program of the Air and Radiation Administration. The incumbent in this position will learn to provide general and technical support for the Air Monitoring Program. The incumbent will maintain a network of pollution monitoring equipment that provides insight into the health of the State's ambient air resources. The incumbent will learn to engage in not only compliance but also in the research end of air monitoring projects. Full responsibility for a phase of a specific project may be assigned to this position.
Work involves exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings. This work involves exposure to hazardous conditions which may result in injury. Work will also involve special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc. The incumbent will be required to wear protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, mask, etc.
This position is primarily a field position with projects statewide; therefore, the incumbent in this position will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you maintain an out-of-state driving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record to drive a State vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
Experience: None.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the general natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the general natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:

  • Hands on experience in the operation, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of continuous and manual based air monitoring instrumentation specific to PM, CO, NOx, S02, 03 and the calibration systems of these methods.
  • Knowledge of both federal and State regulations pertaining to PM, CO, NOx, S02, 03 instrument sampling, operation quality control procedures.
  • Experience in the evaluation of diagnostic information from the air monitoring data acquisition system that includes pollutant concentrations and instrument operational parameters such as voltages, flow rates, PMT output and temperatures.
  • Familiarity with the proper operation and maintenance of various power tools. Including but not limited to drills, impact hammers, weed whackers, brush cutters, circular saws, chainsaws, and reciprocating saws.
  • Experience in data collection in outdoor environments during inclement weather.
  • Experience in the evaluation of diagnostic information using any electronic data collection system or electronic devices.

PERSONAL LEAVE - New State employees are awarded six (6) personal leave days annually (prorated based on start date).

ANNUAL LEAVE - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
SICK LEAVE – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.
PARENTAL LEAVE – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
HOLIDAYS – State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year.
