Departmental Overview
Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs. The UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (Safe TREC) was established in 2000 as the Traffic Safety Center (TSC) to address the fact that motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for people aged 1 to 34 in the U.S.-and a major cause of minor and debilitating injuries for all age groups. Safe TREC's mission is to inform decision-making and empower communities to improve roadway safety for all. The center is funded by a combination of contracts and grants from federal and state agencies and private foundations.

Responsibilities
Conducts transportation safety related data analysis
Utilize general statistical knowledge in support of research grants.
Analyze data using R, Python, STATA or other statistical software, as needed.
Document analyses performed and and share the outcome with other staff.
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and publications
Develop data summary and visualization using tables and charts.
Draft a part of manuscripts with directions from the Principal Investigators.
Conduct literature searches and reviews.
Assist in preparing data and writing a draft for the grant proposals.
Draft monthly, quarterly, or yearly progress reports if appropriate.
Research, collect and maintain transportation safety related data
Collect relevant transportation safety data.
Assist in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends.
Review available data and update periodically if needed to make the data up-to-date.
Share the summary of the available dataset and recent changes with internal constituents.
Participates in workshops, training, and other professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications
Working knowledge in various statistical analysis methods in order to perform data analyses
Proficiency with statistical software such as STATA, R, or related data analysis software to perform processes necessary to examine datasets
Demonstrated strong data analytical skills in order to utilize multiple datasets together
Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
Self-motivated and works independently
Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills
Writes clearly and in the appropriate style
Interacts with co-workers appropriately and efficiently
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred Qualifications
Experience of utilizing online charting libraries such as High Charts, D3, or Google Charts
Experience of analyzing geospatial dataset
Knowledge of relational database structures and database querying tools
Ability to understand SQL and write SQL queries for the data processing

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $35.00 - $42.00. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $35.00/hr - $42.00/hr ($73,080.00 - $87,696.00 annual). The full pay scale range for this position classification is $72,600.00 - $129,000.00 annual (grade 21).
This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position.
This is a 24-month, full-time (40 hours/week), Contract position that is eligible for full UC Benefits.
This is hybrid position, eligible for 60% remote capability. Exact arrangements are determined in partnership with your supervisor to meet role responsibilities and department needs, and are subject to change.
