Looking for a chance to serve our Veterans with your experience in nursing assistance? This Nursing Assistant Lead, Full-Time - Permanent position is for you! There is only one opening, so we encourage you to apply early!

Please Note: Shift will be 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.


  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As the Nursing Assistant Lead, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents of the Spokane Veterans Home and mentor newly assigned Nursing Assistants. You will also assist and/or supervise assigned residents with activities of daily living and promote person-centered care to ensure our residents are treated with dignity and respect.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing:
  • Providing assistance to Nursing Assistance and their assigned residents with activities of daily living (i.e., bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, and eating).
  • Assisting residents with positioning, transferring, and ambulation.
  • Ensuring a safe, secure work environment, including preventive infection control methods.
  • Recording care, vital signs, and observations on resident flow sheets.
  • Caring for residents' personal clothing, belongings, and equipment.
  • Auditing MDS charting and flow sheets of co-workers on shift.
  • Assigning work sections on a daily basis.
  • Performing basic nursing procedures such as applying anti-embolism stockings, taking vital signs, applying creams or lotions to intact skin, etc.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification.
  • Ability to perform data entry.
Preferred/Desired:
  • Accurate methods and practices to assist residents with activities of daily care, personal hygiene, sanitation methods, recordkeeping, reporting changes, infection control procedures and residents rights.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts and data entry.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
