Sedbergh School Vietnam (SSV) is a bilingual international boarding school. We have a very close working relationship with Sedbergh School UK and aim to deliver an exciting and holistic education for both Vietnamese nationals and foreign students in District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. SSV was previously the Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS) and part of the EQuest Education Group. We share an exciting urban campus with the Canadian International School, with access to outstanding facilities for sports and performance, in addition to dedicated spaces for STEM teaching and a group commitment to exploring innovative educational methodologies, including the use of AI. Building on the excellent reputation of Sedbergh UK with 500 years of history and boarding experience, we offer an exciting approach to the delivery of the Vietnamese National Curriculum in addition to an emerging Cambridge Curriculum including IGCSE and A Level programmes. We currently have over 1400 students from Nursery to Year 13 and approximately 200 support and teaching staff making Sedbergh Vietnam a busy school with a number of exciting challenges ahead as we expand. The role:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with:
- Cambridge Lower Secondary English (stages 7-9)
- Cambridge IGCSE First Language English (0500)
- Cambridge International AS & A Level English Language (9093)
- Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work that cover all required skills, topics, and texts for each level.
- Create stimulating classroom environments that foster language development, critical thinking, literary analysis, and effective communication across all age groups.
- Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles and abilities, including the integration of technology where appropriate.
- Guide students through language development and literature study, adapting approaches to suit the level:
- Focus on fundamental language skills and introduction to literature in Lower Secondary
- Develop more advanced language skills and literary analysis in IGCSE
- Foster sophisticated critical analysis and independent study at A Level
- Prepare students for Cambridge examinations at each level, including guidance on various question types, essay writing, and exam techniques.
- Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using both formative and summative assessment techniques aligned with Cambridge standards for each level.
- Provide detailed and constructive feedback on students' work, tailored to their level of study.
- Encourage students to engage with a wide range of texts and literature appropriate to their age and level.
- Organize and supervise English-related activities such as debates, book clubs, writing workshops, and drama performances, suitable for different age groups.
- Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and well-being through regular meetings and reports.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the English department to ensure a cohesive curriculum from Lower Secondary through A Level.
- Stay updated with current developments in English language teaching, literature studies, and related pedagogical approaches.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities.
- Support older students in their university applications, particularly those pursuing English, literature, or related humanities fields.
- Bachelor's degree in English Literature, English Language or a closely related field.
- Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ PGCE or other international equivalents.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of teaching English across secondary levels (11-18 years old).
- Minimum 2 years' experience of teaching the Cambridge Curriculum.
- Experience teaching in an international school setting and in curriculum development and resource creation is a preferable.
- In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge English curricula from Lower Secondary to A Level.
- Excellent understanding of assessment and examination requirements for all relevant Cambridge English qualifications.
- Strong classroom management skills with ability to adapt to different age groups.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance English teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passionate about English language and literature.
- Ability to inspire a love of reading, writing, and language across different age groups.
- Strong critical analysis skills and ability to foster these in students at various levels.
- Creative and innovative in approach to teaching English.
- Adaptable and able to tailor teaching methods to different age groups and abilities.
- Committed to ongoing professional development.
- Cultural sensitivity and appreciation for diverse literary traditions
- Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.
- A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
- Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children.
- Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls.
- Housing allowance.
- Pay up to 2,000 USD per annum for candidates holding a Master degree.
