Key Responsibilities:As the Accountant you will:
  • Provide professional finance related advice and support to across the Office on relevant functions, directives, policies, procedures, and accounting systems.
  • Undertake accounting and financial management activities including:
  • management of accounting systems and preparation of journals and ledgers
  • checking and posting accounts payable and accounts receivable; credit card payments and receipting
  • monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and preparation and lodgment of FBT and BAS statements
  • Contribute to the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and financial information including financial statements, in consultation with the Chief Financial Officer, to meet the Office's statutory reporting obligations.
  • Review and maintain the Office's Financial management practice manual to ensure currency of business rules, procedures and guidelines.
  • Review the Office's financial information systems, internal controls and registers to ensure integrity and currency.
  • Liaise with and provide support to internal and external stakeholders, including Queensland Treasury, and other financial institutions.
  • Contribute to the development and management of financial and asset management plans and systems; identify issues and implement improvements to financial and administrative systems and functions.

Technical expertise: Experience undertaking financial administration in a similar context is desirable.
Knowledge and experience in using financial systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
Qualifications
Although there are no mandatory qualification requirements for the role, it is highly desirable for candidates to hold or be currently undertaking a finance or accounting related qualification. Completion, or progress towards, a certified practising accountant certificate conferred by CPA Australia, or a chartered accountant certificate conferred by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand would be highly regarded.
