Analyst/Lawyer

The team
ASIC's Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have the trust and confidence to invest in Australia's financial markets and ensuring all Market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience, and transparency. This is done by managing the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation, and enforcement. The Markets Group also provides regulatory advice, considers applications and engages with stakeholders pertaining to the regulation of markets.
The Market Integrity team is responsible for the oversight of:
- trading on Australian financial markets, including equities, bonds and derivatives; and
- corporate finance transactions (Mergers & Acquisitions and Fundraising) including assessment of related applications for relief, legislative instruments and policy reform.
As an Analyst or Lawyer in the Market Integrity team, you will:
- undertake surveillance and assessment of markets related disclosure and conduct, including for example transactional reviews, continuous disclosure, Insider trading and market manipulation.
- respond to requests for advice and contribute to the preparation of briefings.
- assist with the development of regulatory policy, including thorough research and consultation with industry stakeholders.
- conduct research and analysis to assist with multi-skilled cross-stakeholder projects that respond to market conditions and ASIC strategic priorities.
- develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. This includes Australian Market Operators, entities and their advisors.
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Knowledge of, or exposure to, ASIC's regulatory functions and relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Knowledge of the Corporations Act will be well regarded.
- Exposure to commercial or corporate advisory law and/or transactional work in a commercial / advisory / regulatory environment.
- Ability to acquire or critically analyse regulatory issues, identify options and make appropriate recommendations within a regulatory environment.
- Working knowledge to accurately identify harms, analyse their root causes, assess their likely impact and priority for ASIC to respond.
- Understanding and exposure to, using data to inform analysis and problem solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts and influence decision-makers.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and be accountable for outcomes.
