Job Description

The Role

The AVP, Protection, Client Solutions, Australia plays a pivotal role in managing external client relationships and internal stakeholder engagements. This individual is the 'business owner' for key strategic clients and partners within the Australian market across both the Group and Retail. The role requires strong stakeholder management as a key member of the business, while developing and delivering high-quality reinsurance solutions within the Australian market. The AVP is expected to foster a dynamic team environment that is solution orientated, focused on identifying and capitalizing on market opportunities through robust client engagement, and strong negotiation skills to retain existing clients and win new business.

In this role, the AVP will work closely with clients to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs, aligning these with business objectives to devise mutually beneficial solutions that contribute to the sustainable growth of PL Re. The AVP will also play a key role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the Australia Protection business, supporting the VP in the development and execution of the business strategy in line with PL Re's values. The right person will have a strong presence within the insurance market and a natural desire to engage with external stakeholders.

Additionally, with our technology partner Underwrite Me and as a global reinsurer, the AVP should actively participate to develop solutions utilising the other regions and functions expertise, collaborating with AVP's in the wider business to drive the strategic direction of the business. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proactive approach to client management and a strong ability to build and maintain lasting partnerships.

Duties

Be the 'business owner' (lead) on a number of our key Australian clients, in line with Protection Partnership Management Framework. Be 'hungry' and focused on opportunities to develop new business in Australia by maintaining regular (and impactful) contact with reinsurance decision makers and maintaining a high level of market awareness.

Help with the development and implementation of new business growth strategies or client retention initiatives. Determining and implementing solutions to client problems.
Have strong collaboration with Underwrite Me.

Helping to lead the Client Solutions team effectively to include:
  • Owning the overall delivery on new business tenders and inforce retention projects
  • Coaching and developing each team members to achieve team and company goals as well as individual performance standards and objectives;
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Help to execute our governance and risk practices through all activities within the team, ensuring that our corporate governance framework is in place and that appropriate internal control systems are in place to guard against operational risk.

The incumbent is also expected to ensure that a culture of risk management is in place such that all members of their team exhibit strong risk culture and awareness with open/healthy challenge and a proactive approach to identifying, fixing and learning from control failures.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualified actuary
  • Proven experience in the Australian group and retail markets including experience of pricing and product development either with a reinsurance or direct insurance background
  • Strong knowledge of the life insurance market in Australia
  • Strong commercial skills
  • Respected industry presence with strong contacts at Australian insurers
  • Proven track record of developing solutions to complex issues
  • Ability and desire to communicate with stakeholders at all levels across the business and to work well within a team environment
  • Organised, conscientious, and deadline focused with an attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing demands and deal with non-standard and often unstructured requests, at short notice
  • Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibility
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement across CS team tools and processes
