Coordinator, The Living Room

The Living Room is a new low barrier peer-led mental health service, which aims to promote wellbeing and mental health through early discussion and intervention, whilst offering peer-based conversation and communication of ECU supports and services.

The Living Room seeks to create a safe and supportive environment where students can share their experiences with a Peer Support Advisor. The space serves as a wellbeing centre, promoting health, early identification, support, and referrals for students facing early mental health impacts, challenges, or wellbeing concerns.

The Living Room at ECU, focuses on collaborating across all university student service points, for the implementation of a seamless student experience and excellent student service standards.

The role
The Coordinator has responsibilities for the oversight, management and operationisation of the service, including but not limited to, the line management of Peer Suppor Advisors, the provision of mental health services, student wellbeing, support, and health promotion activities within The Living Room and the University and broader community as and when required.

This role is vital within the context of ensuring all related mental health support, peer training, and clinical supervision is in keeping with best practice, university strategies, and processes for the provision of mental health support to students

The Coordinator will complete comprehensive mental health assessments, case notes and referral records, to meet the service and university reporting and ongoing evaluation requirements.

Essential criteria

Relevant tertiary qualification with current registration with an associated professional organisation such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (Mental Health Social Worker) or membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) / ACA (Australian Counselling Association).
Proven expertise in the application of evidence based clinical practice within the mental health field in a therapeutic role, leadership and/or case management role.
Knowledge, skills, and experience in carrying out detailed psychosocial mental health and risk assessments and supporting people in crisis.
Demonstrated understanding of mental illness, trauma informed approaches, recovery, and suicide prevention models, with a focus on a person-centred approach.
Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and experience in the facilitation, delivery, and implementation of health promotion and/or mental health education programs and relevant experience facilitating skills development to others.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of people and internal and external stakeholders.
Experience providing clinical supervision and/or support for other staff, or peer-based roles.

Desirable Criteria

Experience in higher education or understanding of contemporary mental health issues relevant to the higher education sector.
Experience with data collection, analysis, and evaluation of service provision.

Pre-employment checks
Pre-employment checks will include National Police Clearance, Current CPR Certificate, Mental Health First Aid, Reference checks, Right to work in Australia check.

Benefits & culture
This ongoing full-time position attracts a remuneration of $100,512 to $112,622 (HEW 7) per annum (pro rata for part-time) plus 17% superannuation.
