Salary: UOM 6 – $96,459 – $104,413 p.a. plus 17% super (pro rata part time)
- Manage and oversee the database systems for the PLATIPUS (Platform for Adaptive Trials in Perinatal Units) trial, ensuring standardised procedures and data security for research on perinatal health outcomes.
- Play a pivotal role in a groundbreaking international perinatal research initiative, working with leading experts and utilizing advanced database management skills to support critical health outcome studies for preterm infants.

The PLATIPUS Database Manager will play a central role in the Platform for Adaptive Trials in Perinatal Units, focused on perinatal research across Australia and New Zealand.
Based at the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health, this position involves creating, managing, and maintaining trial databases, ensuring data integrity and security, and providing technical support and training related to the database systems.
The role demands a high level of technical proficiency in database architecture and management, a close working relationship with external vendors and international teams, and ongoing collaboration with research staff to support the implementation and operation of the database systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of PLATIPUS databases in collaboration with the PLATIPUS Data Manager and external providers, ensuring data security, compliance with regulations, and user-friendly management processes, including training and support for research staff.
- Manage database modifications, extract data sets for biostatistical analysis, and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of research data, while contributing to the creation of conference papers and seminar publications.
- Actively participate in trial and departmental meetings, maintain technical competencies, provide educational support to research staff, and uphold the University of Melbourne’s values and mandatory training requirements in line with ethical research practices.
You will hold a degree in epidemiology, biomedical science, data management, or a related field, alongside relevant experience.
Your expertise should include handling extensive data tasks such as quality assurance, cleaning, and manipulation, particularly with clinical trial e CRF platforms, and you should be well-versed in ethics, confidentiality, and security.
Strong communication skills are essential for liaising with stakeholders and creating user manuals, and experience with large clinical research projects, especially in perinatal or health-related areas, and GCP accreditation are desirable.
You will also have:
- Completion of a degree in epidemiology, science/biomedical science, data management or a public health related discipline with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- A current and valid Working with Children Check and Police Check.
- COVID19 Dose 1, Dose 2, Booster, & Annual influenza vaccine.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
