The Opportunity
Ramsay is seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Finance with strong leadership skills to oversee two of our premier hospitals within the East Metro Network: Mitcham and Waverley Private Hospitals. In this pivotal role, you will drive the financial management and performance of these facilities. Supported by our off-site Finance Service Centre for transactional accounting, you’ll ensure financial accuracy and integrity across our network. Your Skills and Experience
Waverley Private Hospital is a premier 98-bed acute and surgical facility nestled in the vibrant Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. Since 1972, we've proudly served the healthcare needs of Eastern and South Eastern Melbourne, earning a reputation for excellence in a warm and welcoming environment. At Waverley Private, we offer a truly personalised experience with private rooms across our surgical, medical, and maternity wards, each equipped with ensuites, flat-screen TVs, Foxtel, and Wi-Fi. In our maternity ward, partners are welcome to stay, ensuring comfort and connection during this special time. Our hospital boasts seven state-of-the-art operating theatres, including a Day Procedure Unit, all staffed by highly experienced healthcare professionals who are at the forefront of the latest medical advancements. Our team's unwavering commitment to patient care ensures that every individual receives the highest standard of service. Waverley Private Hospital is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), underscoring our dedication to maintaining the highest levels of patient health, safety, and comfort. We continuously monitor and evaluate our performance to deliver exceptional healthcare outcomes.
Mitcham Private Hospital is a fully accredited, 121-bed facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical, maternity, and mental health services, tailored to meet the healthcare needs of Melbourne’s outer eastern communities. Our dedicated team of highly skilled nursing and medical professionals takes pride in creating a distinctive private hospital experience, delivering exceptional care that is trusted and valued by the community. From pre-admission to discharge, every patient at Mitcham Private is treated with the utmost respect and dignity, ensuring a positive and supportive experience throughout their stay. Our hospital features five state-of-the-art operating theatres, equipped with the latest technology to support a wide range of surgical procedures, from minor to complex. For patients requiring specialised care, our three-bed High Dependency Unit offers constant supervision and expert attention following major surgeries or acute illnesses. Mitcham Private also serves as a vital resource for the local area, accommodating admissions from doctors or Emergency Departments, with 24/7 medical cover provided by our dedicated team. We have a General Surgeon and Physician on call to facilitate the direct admission and care of acute medical patients. Our newly built Victoria Court is a modern, 21-bed adult mental health unit, offering both inpatient and outpatient programs, as well as private consulting rooms for on-site psychiatrists.

Key Accountabilities
- Analyse financial results to identify opportunities for improvements and growth.
- Develop and oversee annual budgets and business plans.
- Manage various non-clinical departments, including Business Office/Patient Administration, Consulting Suites, Finance, Purchasing, Health Information Services, Catering, and Environmental Services.
- Oversee the financial management and implications of Capital Expenditure.
- Coordinate with corporate finance services on reporting and compliance.
- Collaborate with clinical departments to educate and empower managers in understanding, monitoring, and achieving KPIs.
To excel in this role, you will need to demonstrate substantial commercial acumen, advanced financial management expertise, and highly effective leadership skills. Additionally, you should have a proven ability to build strong, positive, and professional relationships with both remote and on-site teams.
Your Skills and Experience
- Professional qualifications in accountancy/finance management, with a preference for CPA or CA.
- Proven ability to analyse financial and operational data to generate value-creating insights.
- Experience in working collaboratively with the business to enhance performance.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, strong decision-making capabilities, and clear, concise communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Extensive experience with large accounting software packages and financial reporting models, including advanced budget preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and support key non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in financial management within the healthcare sector.
- Skilled in financial legislation, compliance, and risk management frameworks pertinent to healthcare environments.
