About the Cadet Program
Our Program offers first and second year undergraduate students the opportunity to work within Downer’s Transport & Infrastructure business divisions, gaining industry experience working on live projects within our civil infrastructure productions and contracting teams, laboratory, commercial, and finance teams.
We support you in acquiring new skills aligned to your field of study and encourage your growth and development, ensuring you are industry ready upon completing your studies.
You will be mentored by industry experts, get your hands dirty on site, build networks and gain experience working for large organisation.
The Program typically runs for three years, comprising of a compulsory block of full-time work during the summer break, with the opportunity for casual work throughout the rest of the year. The full- time work is constructed as placements (structured rotations) in different areas of the Transport & Infrastructure business, including:

Crews delivering contracting projects onsite
Project Engineers and Project Managers
Contract Managers
Production teams at our asphalt plants
Major Project teams delivering airport projects
Laboratory
Finance
Commercial

When does the Program commence?
Our Cadet Induction is scheduled for Monday 2 nd and Tuesday 3 rd December 2024, kicking off the first structured rotation. All successful candidates must be available for this mandatory Induction.
Program eligibility

You must be available on Monday 2 nd and Tuesday 3 rd December 2024 for the Cadet Induction
You must be available for full-time work from the Induction days through to late February 2025 prior to the recommencement of university semester - note: you must be available for full-time work for the same period each subsequent year of the Cadet Program (i.e. late November to late February)
You must have permanent working rights in Australia
You must hold a current Australian Driver’s Licence
You must be enrolled in your first or second year of an undergraduate degree, studying in discipline/s of:
- Engineering
- Finance (Accounting)
- Commerce
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Science
