We’re launching two automated Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) in Melbourne and Sydney. The new CFCs will redefine the customer experience in online grocery shopping, providing customers with improved availability and freshness, a broader produce range and a seamless digital experience, while also providing a safer working environment for our team members. As our Melbourne site ramps up, we have an opportunity for an experienced Inventory Manager to join the team.
Responsible for managing an inventory team within the Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC). Support your team in achieving Coles Ecommerce KPIs for safety, customer experience, cost, fulfilment and delivery. As a member of the Optimisation & Inventory team, assist the operations and engineering teams by overseeing exceptional inventory management processes to optimise fulfilment and reduce waste and improve customer experience. Drive compliance across inbound, decant, pick and dispatch channels in key inventory management functions such as product purge, recalls, damages and quality checks.

About the role
Responsible for managing an inventory team within the Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC). Support your team in achieving Coles Ecommerce KPIs for safety, customer experience, cost, fulfilment and delivery. As a member of the Optimisation & Inventory team, assist the operations and engineering teams by overseeing exceptional inventory management processes to optimise fulfilment and reduce waste and improve customer experience. Drive compliance across inbound, decant, pick and dispatch channels in key inventory management functions such as product purge, recalls, damages and quality checks.
You will also:
- Support the execution of the strategy implementation plan, to achieve the organisation's strategic objectives within the CFC & Spoke operations
- Assist with driving a highly customer-focused culture within the inventory management operations team
- Ensure operational productivity within the inventory management operations team, to help the CFC contribute strongly to Coles' Ecommerce and One Operations customer experience objectives
- Check resourcing and productivity within the inventory management team is sufficient to meet workload requirements, and escalate any anticipated issues
- Responsible for coordinating your team's operations within budget, and supporting an ongoing focus on continuous improvement to drive cost efficiencies within these areas
- Support a positive relationship with the site and local union delegates
- Lead a high performance team; create and communicate performance objectives; empower direct reports to achieve objectives and hold them accountable; support team members to achieve their career and development goals
- Proactively identify issues and/or opportunities for more efficient and effective work practices and make recommendations for continuous improvement
About you and your skills
We are looking for motivated Inventory Managers with a customer first focus and a passion for Continuous Improvement.
You’ll also need:
- 3-5 years' experience as a leader, supervisor or manager in a logistics, FMCG, retail or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising teams in a fast-paced, complex workplace combining automated plant operations with labour intensive and manual workstreams.
- Managing inventory within a DC or customer fulfilment centre.
- Experience driving operational efficiency in the use of market leading warehouse and inventory management systems, including to optimise stock flow & reduce waste
- Broad supply chain knowledge in retail or FMCG desirable
- Strong business acumen / commercial skills
- Excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- High-level attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to plan, build and deliver major change projects
- Excellent data fluency
