Lead Senior Biostatistician, Registry Science

Full-Time, 12-Month Contract

A unique opportunity for a Lead Senior Biostatistician is now available at SAHMRI, supporting the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR, as well as other SAHMRI based Registries, as required. The Lead Senior Biostatistician will provide a high level of statistical support and expertise and will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing quality of the Registry data, patient reported data and clinical studies outputs.
Key responsibilities include:
- High-level expertise in statistical advice, analysis and reporting for large scale research projects
- Design and performance of statistical analyses in a timely fashion
- Analytical results prepared for publication and published in highly cited journals
- Supervision of statistical team members
- Statistical leadership including fostering innovative statistical methods in Registry Science
- Design, develop and apply statistical methods and models appropriate for Registry data
- Continued development of statistical analyses required for regular reporting
- Participation in ongoing research projects within Registries
- Assisting the Registry to respond to external requests for data analysis
- Assisting the Registry Management and the Senior Manager, Registry Science in provision of appropriate analyses to support the work of Registries
- Statistical analysis of research projects including clinical studies undertaken within Registries
About You
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
- Essential: Relevant honours degree or equivalent in statistics or biostatistics
- Desirable: Postgraduate research degree (Master’s or Ph D or equivalent) or substantial work experience in a similar role
- Extensive demonstrated knowledge and experience of statistical analysis of complex research data
- In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory
- Demonstrated ability in interpreting and writing statistical sections of research papers or other reports
- At least five years demonstrated experience programming using statistical software programs such as SAS, STATA or R
- Ability to explain and interpret results of statistical analyses to others
- Demonstrated ability in interpreting and writing statistical sections of research papers or other reports
- Interpersonal skills that will create collaborative links with other statisticians on behalf of the unit
- Understanding of data management principles for large scale clinical research
- Familiarity and experience in a health-related environment with complex survival analyses and large-scale observational databases
- Knowledge of other statistical expertise in Australia and internationally in advanced methods and issues in the analysis of Registry data
