SAHMRI is seeking a highly motivated Research Manager (0.6-1.0 FTE) to join the Reproductive and Perinatal Pharmacoepidemiology Research Group at SAHMRI Women and Kids.
The Reproductive and Perinatal Pharmacoepidemiology Research Group seeks to optimise women’s and children’s health through improvements in the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medication use. Our innovative program of research addresses medication use across the reproductive lifespan including contraception, conception, infertility, complications of pregnancy, adverse pregnancy outcomes and lactation.
As Research Manager you will play a key role in supporting research activities within the group. Reporting to the Head, Reproductive and Perinatal Pharmacoepidemiology Group, SAHMRI Women and Kids, the position will also work closely with other members of SAHMRI Women and Kids, as well as partners and collaborators. The role will interact with a range of external stakeholders including consumer, academic, government and contract research organisations.
This role will aid in the management of multi-centre research activities within the SAHMRI Women and Kids (SWK) Theme to a high standard of quality and in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

About the role
Key responsibilities include:
Project management & budgeting
  • Project manage the delivery of key objectives of grant funded projects.
  • Develop and manage a budget to allow tracking and reporting on expenditure.
  • Monitor and report on progress of research group activity against objectives, milestones and outcomes of grant funded projects.
  • Demonstrate initiative and develop processes to maximise successful delivery of research group objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand or enhance the quality of existing research programs.
Communication & Engagement
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically.
  • Communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature.
  • Prepare high-quality research documentation (including Study Protocols) for investigator review.
  • Contribute to the development of competitive grant applications for related work.
  • Provide assistance with research tasks including literature reviews.
Business and Operations Support
  • Support the management of research activities within the SAHMRI Women and Kids (SWK) Theme to a high standard of quality and in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide support with research ethics and/or governance applications as required.
  • Arrange research group meetings/workshops.
  • Undertake general administrative tasks related to research group activities.
  • Proactively support a culture of innovation and excellence that ensures delivery of specific outcomes through a shared sense of purpose with the rest of the team.

About You
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
  • A degree in a relevant discipline and preferably experience in women’s health or maternal/infant (perinatal) healthcare delivery.
  • Understand Australian health and medical systems and have experience in working in a hospital or health setting, including ability to understand the implications and maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Experience in delivery of medical research, particularly as it pertains to health and wellbeing of women and families
  • Project management experience.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills including the ability to quickly prioritise competing demands with strict deadlines and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet both varied and fixed deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a resourceful and innovative solutions focussed approach to achieve outcomes.
  • Shown capacity to use initiative to improve delivery and find innovative ways to resolve problems.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and experience in maintaining a positive collaborative spirit.
  • Demonstrated personal qualities of leadership, teamwork, innovation, and commitment to collaborative work practices.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, establishing rapport efficiently and effectively with colleagues, collaborating organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Poven ability to develop and utilise processes to improve research project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate, succinct and accurate research related documents (e.g. manuscripts and reports)
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Special Requirements
  • Some out of hours’ work may be required
  • Some interstate travel may be required
  • DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required.
  • Primarily located at Flinders Medical Center with some travel required between SWK sites including SAHMRI at the Women’s and Children's Hospital
  • This position requires a pre-employment medical examination to determine suitability for the physical requirements of the role.
  • SAHMRI is required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy for SAHMRI employees carrying out work in any SA Health Facility.
    • Immunisation Risk for this position is Category A
