Helena River Steiner School is a small, co-educational Steiner school located in Hazelmere, Western Australia. We offer a Steiner education from Kindergarten to Class 7, based on the nationally accredited Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework (ASCF). We aim to create a school where the Core Principles for Australian Steiner Schools permeate its pedagogical, physical and social fabric through the thinking, feeling and willing actions of its employees and community members.
For this position we seek a dynamic and dedicated Learning Support Teacher, able to work with students who require individualised support with their learning, and who will actively support the School’s aims to foster a developmental, balanced and global approach to teaching and learning.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate their strength in developing and implementing differentiated programs to provide students with the support required to maximise their learning potential.
Responsibilities of a Learning Support Teacher include:
- Develop and deliver differentiated programs to meet the academic needs of students.
- Apply evidence-based individualized education interventions to improve academic engagement, organizational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation skills.
- Monitor, review and report on the performance of students by creating Curriculum Adjustment Plan’s (CAP’s) and Individual Education Plan’s (IEP’s).
- Ensure a high-quality supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and results in academic improvement, using data and evidence-based intervention programs.
- Provide support to students and families by contributing to their sense of belonging and overall wellbeing whilst at school.
What we are seeking:
- A highly skilled teacher with experience in a learning support environment.
- A sound knowledge of diverse diagnoses, and effective strategies to support students’ individual needs.
- Confidence in working with children of mixed ages, mixed abilities and from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent ability to develop differentiated learning programs to address the learning needs of students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all staff across the school.
- Excellent ability to build genuine and authentic relationships with students and families.
- An awareness and appreciation of the Steiner ethos of the school.
- Have had training or experience in Steiner primary teaching, or be willing to undergo such training.
Personal
- Demonstrate a commitment to being a strong moral, ethical and personal role model, aligned with the School’s values and mission.
- Be flexible and adaptable to change, recognising the learning and development needs of the class and the individual students.
- If new to Steiner education and Anthroposophy, demonstrate an openness and enthusiasm to learn more about the Steiner approach to education and children’s stages of development.
- Be committed to positive, responsive and effective communication with students, parents and colleagues.
Professional
- Current Western Australian teacher registration (or be eligible for TRBWA registration).
- Have (or be eligible to have) a current Working With Children Check.
- Be committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development in Primary Education, including Steiner Education, which will be supported by the School.
- Demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills.
