The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and highly organised Manager, Building and Facilities to join our Building Facilities team in this full-time, ongoing Executive Level 1 position.

The Manager, Building & Facilities is responsible for leading the operational function of facilities and maintenance across the Museum site on a day-to-day basis to support the service delivery function and ensure compliance with performance expectations and relevant regulations and standards.
The position will assume overall responsibility for section budget, maintenance and operations, purchasing of material, equipment and supplies.
High level overview of accountabilities:
- Oversee the delivery of the Building and Facilities team, ensuring direction and effective communication is provided to all team members.
- Proactively engage stakeholders to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Develop effective stakeholder relationships across the Museum.
- Lead the execution of efficient preventative maintenance schedules to minimise operational impact and ensure targets are met or exceeded.
- Plan and manage stakeholder contracts to ensure they are professionally delivered at the right costs.
- Recommend continuous quality improvement practises and implement Industry Best Practise operations.
- Implement building procedure and performance measures and ensure they are always maintained.
- Review existing operations regularly to reduce costs and improve operational standards.
- Ensure escalation procedures and incident reporting procedures are implemented and maintained.
- Promote a sense of innovation, commitment and success across the team through people-centric coaching, mentoring and development.
- Act as a point of escalation for relevant matters relating to facilities and maintenance across the Museum.
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Ability to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge from similar employment.
- Strong internal and external stakeholder engagement skills.
- Understanding of asset management.
- Strong leadership skills that will enable you to oversee cross-functional teams, public service employees, contractors and relevant parties, ensuring Museum goals and objectives are met.
- Ability to communicate confidently and an aptitude for preparing reports and presentations to communicate progress status and outcomes to senior leaders, and other relevant parties.
- Ability to demonstrate honesty, fairness and consistency in actions and decisions, building a positive working environment and maintaining trust and credibility through taking ownership of actions.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and public holidays as required.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are very short while others may take one or more hours.
