Where you'll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) provides comprehensive health services to residents in Western Sydney, focusing on primary, secondary, and tertiary care. The Access and Assessment Mental Health Team supports acute mental health care through coordinated, crisis-focused services.
  • Delivers acute mental health assessment, triage, and crisis care in the community.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and private providers, including GPs and psychiatrists.
  • Provides family support, client education, and medication management.
  • Maintains records in line with WSLHD and NSW Health policies.
  • Works within a rotating roster, including weekends, and contributes to team development.

What you'll be doing
The Access and Assessment Mental Health Clinician role supports individuals in crisis within Western Sydney, providing acute care and assessment. This position coordinates with multiple services to deliver comprehensive mental health support.
  • Conducts triage, assessment, and crisis intervention for acute cases.
  • Coordinates care with internal and external providers, including GPs and private clinicians.
  • Offers family support, client education, and home treatment as needed.
  • Participates in a rotating roster, including weekend shifts.
  • Maintains detailed records, adhering to WSLHD and NSW Health guidelines.

Essential Requirements
Qualifications which permit registration as a Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or Psychologist which provides eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association and full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency where legislated.

Selection Criteria
  • Experience and clinical skills in community mental health triage, comprehensive assessments, including risk and safety planning as well as experience in provision of collaborative care and discharge planning
  • Understanding of Mental Health/ Psychiatry service/ crisis work and ability to work with in a demanding crisis/acute management service.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with consumers/carers/families and has experience working with families who are coping with Mental Health Illness.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communications skills, effective verbal, written and negotiation skills and intermediate computer skills.
  • Experience and knowledge in acute mental health intervention, early intervention, and CALD issues.
  • Understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health with the ability to implement these in clinical practice.
  • Understanding of NSW Mental Health Act (2007).
  • Current Driving licence (class C - unrestricted) valid within Australia and willingness to use same for the work purpose.
