Contour Education

MMI Tutor

CONTRACT

September 14, 2024

We are thrilled to offer the exciting opportunity for a charismatic, enthusiastic and passionate medical student to join us as an MMI Tutor at Contour Med Prep.
At Contour, we pride ourselves in delivering exceptional, well-rounded tutoring services for our students. We’ve developed a comprehensive Interview Preparation Course for the MMI as well as UNSW/JCU Panel Interviews, that equips aspiring medical and dental students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. From 1-on-1 consultations to small-group sessions and personalised feedback, your role as an MMI Tutor will guide students through the critical interview stage of medical school admission.
As a current medical or dental student, you know first-hand the challenges of interview preparation. As an MMI Tutor, you’ll have the chance to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment, offering feedback and advice that will make a real difference in each student’s journey. By joining Contour Med Prep, you'll be part of a dedicated team focused on helping students reach their goals and make their dream of medical or dental school a reality.
Who Are We
Contour Med Prep empowers aspiring medical students through comprehensive UCAT, Interview and Applications programs, supporting them throughout the highly competitive journey of gaining admission into medical or dental school.
Our UCAT and MMI courses focus on developing the specific mental abilities of a successful doctor or dentist, through engaging group lessons, abundant resources, live mock exams, 24/7 student support and so much more! We are extremely committed to innovative and results-driven medical preparation, with industry-first initiatives such as our Live UCAT Testing Centre and student accountability system propelling our students to an industry-leading median UCAT score of 3040+, dozens of 3400+ scores, and one student even setting the world record score of 3590!
Over 3500+ students and 100+ staff have joined Contour since our founding in 2020. In 2024, we expanded our in-person UCAT Testing Centres from Melbourne to Brisbane and Sydney, receiving over 1000 bookings and hundreds of new enrolments from all over Australia! Our growth is a testament to our dedication to providing ALL our students and parents with a high-quality tutoring experience (from 24/7 personal support to on-demand resources) and our commitment to helping them achieve their goals.
We were listed as the 17th Fastest Growing Startup by the Australian Financial Review in 2022, ranked again in 2023, and are continuing to multiply year over year! (We've tripled - or more - in size for four years in a row now, and we don't plan to slow down anytime soon.) It's our vision to reshape education, starting with tutoring.
The Role
At Contour Med Prep, we are driven by our mission to support students as they prepare for one of the most important and challenging stages of their journey into medical and dental school: the interview. Whether it’s the MMI for most universities in Australia, or the panel interview for UNSW and JCU, this stage can often be the make-or-break point in a student’s application. We understand that many students struggle with confidence, structure, and technique during interviews, and that’s why our Interview Course is designed to offer students the guidance they need to stand out and be at their best.
As an MMI Tutor, you will play a key role in helping students sharpen their interview skills and build the confidence they need to excel. Through small-group practice sessions, 1-on-1 consultations, text/email support and 1-on-1 video feedback, you’ll provide personalised support and actionable strategies that give our students the edge. Using the comprehensive training and guides we provide, coupled with your insights and expertise as a current medical student, you’ll be able to guide aspiring medical students through their own interview challenges.
This role is more than just tutoring - it’s about helping students convey their passion for medicine and dentistry, and equipping them with the strategies they need to articulate their unique stories. Whether you’re leading small group discussions, giving live feedback in breakout rooms, or reviewing video practice submissions, your work will be critical in ensuring students feel prepared and confident going into their interviews.
The role will require strong collaboration with the rest of the team to ensure that every student receives consistent, high-quality guidance. You will work closely with our Head Tutor to provide students with a seamless and supportive experience. Your role will be predominantly remote, allowing you to balance your professional and academic commitments, while still having a profound impact on future medical and dental students.
Join us at Contour Med Prep, and help students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed at one of the most critical points in their journey to medical and dental school. Your expertise, commitment, and passion for education will help us continue to deliver premium support and guidance, ensuring our students feel ready for any challenging question that comes their way.
Why Contour, and Why This Role?
Working in our collaborative environment with an energetic team is a fantastic opportunity to let your social personality thrive, hone your communication skills and learn heaps along the way!
At Contour Med Prep, you’ll get an inside look at one of the fastest growing start-ups in education in Australia. Our team is super driven and hard-working, but we’re all easy-going and friendly, and we love our frequent (paid-for) team dinners and meet-ups, where you’ll get to talk and vibe with everyone.
Our goal is to reshape education, starting with tutoring. By integrating technology and innovative practices, we strive to empower our students’ learning. As we progress, our small steps start to become big strides, as we make major advances in the resources & support we provide to our students. If you’re eager to channel your passion and communication and teaching skills, this role could be the perfect fit!
Becoming an MMI Tutor is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to help aspiring medical and dental students achieve their goals. Your role goes beyond just practice - you'll empower your students to feel confident and prepared for their real interviews.
With rapidly increasing interest in our Interview Course from hundreds of students, you'll be an integral part of Australia’s most sought after Interview Preparation Program. You’ll also have the chance to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment, offering feedback and strategies that make a real difference in each student’s journey.
Comprehensive Training & Support
When you join, you'll be properly onboarded with all the training, support and personal feedback you need to thrive in the role. You'll work closely with our leadership team and Head Tutor to upskill and refine your communication and feedback skills, and you’ll be thoroughly introduced to all of our software, processes and program structure.
By the end of your initial training, the role will become second-nature to you and you’ll know our guides and processes inside-out! You’ll feel confident running high-quality 1-on-1 consultations and small group sessions for our students.
After the initial training, you’ll also have regular 1-on-1 check-ins and ongoing group training to help accelerate your personal and professional development within the role. There will also be regular team meetings to keep everyone on the same page and to help you build genuine relationships with the rest of our amazing team!
Key Responsibilities
As an MMI Tutor, your main responsibilities include:
  • Run 1-Hour Small-Group Practice Sessions. This involves facilitating and observing Zoom breakout-room practice sessions, providing detailed feedback and leading interactive group discussions on each practice station!
  • Run 30 Minute 1-on-1 Consultations via Zoom. This involves running a practice MMI station with a student, then discussing your tailored and practical feedback for the student. You’ll then have the opportunity to discuss their overall interview structure and strategy, as you provide detailed advice, answer their questions, and even let them try responding to a question again to improve.
  • Assist with at least 6 x 3-Hour Workshops. Attend a minimum of 6 out of the 14 online workshops conducted by the Head Tutor. Here, you will get a chance to give feedback to students as they practise in breakout rooms, answer student questions via the Zoom chat and contribute to class discussions. You’ll also be able to master all of the content being taught, ensuring that you feel confident while teaching it in your small-group sessions and 1-on-1 consultations.
  • Record 5-Minute Feedback Videos. On our online platform, students will submit video recordings of them completing a practice MMI station. After watching their response and then using our feedback guide coupled with your expertise, you’ll record a 5-minute feedback video via our online platform. This video will have personalised feedback for the student, helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Record Model Responses for Practice Stations: As we provide over 200+ practice MMI stations to our students, you’ll have the opportunity to record model responses of yourself attempting these practice stations. These will be uploaded to our online platform as an invaluable resource for students to be inspired by and to learn from as they refine their interview responses.
  • Complete Initial & Ongoing Training: Complete our comprehensive initial onboarding and training program to help you thrive in the role and be at your best. There will also be weekly team meetings and regular 1-on-1 check-ins to connect with the rest of the team and collaborate on ways to improve.
