Job Description

Conoco Phillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. Conoco Phillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.
The Operations Superintendent oversees the safe operation of the APLNG Facility, in compliance to the Major Hazard Facility Safety Case and in alignment with the approved Integrated Activity Schedule.
Reporting to the Integrated Production Lead, the Operations Superintendent will be responsible for providing site leadership to a team of Operations Technicians inclusive of performance management, mentoring and coaching.
The Operations Superintendent will be accountable for the daily execution of the Annual Delivery Plan in collaboration with the Integrated Production Planning Lead, whilst ensuring key safety and assurance requirements are met.
This position will work a continuous shift roster, based on APLNG facility, Curtis Island.
The Operations Superintendent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Execution of the shift tactical schedule and aligned priorities
  • Promote and coach shift consistency and organizational effectiveness on their shift
  • Emergency response and management including skills maintenance on their shift
  • Lead and coach operational HSE culture, expectations and HSEMS conformity
  • Field leadership and engagement
  • Resolve operational performance variation and identify lead operational system improvements (CIP)
  • Operations technicians individual training plan development, maintain shift CTO
  • PMP management, succession and development planning in collaboration with IPL
  • Duty caretaker of WHS Act places duties person in control of a business of undertaking (PCBU) in the absence of IPL
  • HSE line management and leadership
  • Effectively manage abnormal plant reliability and operational conditions within level of authority
  • Ensure “SPIRIT” values are always promoted and supported
  • Assure compliance with the process operating guidelines and all EODs
  • Management of change – operations deviation
  • Quality and timely reporting
  • Actively engage in high quality shift hand over and pre starts
  • Ownership of managing operational costs within DOA
  • Provide leadership as the Emergency Commander during emergency situations in absence of the IPL
  • Lead facility abnormal upsets and situations
  • Ensure PTW compliance
  • Maintain ERT skills maintenance
  • Conduct frequent filed leadership engagements
About you
You will bring to the role:
  • Cultural alignment with Conoco Phillips’ SPIRIT Values
  • Minimum of 3 years’ operating experience within Power Generation, Chemical or Hydrocarbon processing industries
  • Minimum of 2 years’ operational specialist experience
  • Superior knowledge of HSE and Process Safety
  • SAP experience or similar computer-based maintenance system
  • Demonstrated unwavering safety leadership and compliance skills and knowledge
  • Proficient knowledge of risk management processes
  • Demonstrated safe system of work ownership and accountability
  • Technical astute in operational principles
  • Certificate IV in process plant Technology (preferred)
  • Relevant aligned tertiary qualifications post Certificate IV in Process Technology (preferred)
