Join Conoco Phillips Australia in the position of Training & Competency Supervisor.
Job Description

Conoco Phillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. Conoco Phillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.
Based in either Brisbane or Gladstone and reporting to the Integrated Operations Manager the Training & Competency Supervisor will lead the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Downstream Operations (DSO) Training & Competency Team and develop, implement, and manage all aspects of training and competency for the APLNG DSO Team to safely and efficiently operate the Australia Pacific LNG facilities and associated equipment.
The Training & Competency Supervisor will be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Lead the APLNG DSO Training & Competency Team to achieve the training and competency assurance business plan objectives
  • Ensure consistent implementation of the ABU Training and Competency Assurance Philosophy through training, guidance and support, documentation and centralized record keeping
  • Develop and implement key contracts to support the ABU Training and Competency System
  • Manage the Training & Competency team, function and budget
  • Provide operational and technical training and competency advice to ensure training packages reflect operational needs and best practice
  • Manage the training strategy, plan, key training and competency activities, developing quality programs aligned to COP standards
  • Maintain oversight of Training compliance and communicate status to DSO leadership on a monthly basis
  • Project manage critical competency initiatives for employees and contractors including: PTW, ISSOW, OTS, VOC, electrical and mechanical maintenance
  • Develop and/or source training material to meet business needs
  • Align with the ABU Training Philosophy to develop, implement, and manage the Training & Competency Management System for Downstream Australia Pacific LNG in accordance with Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Standards, legislative requirements, and the Queensland Major Hazard Facility Guidelines
  • Implement and manage training services and activities to ensure that employees receive the required training based on competency requirements set by the Queensland Major Hazard Facility Guidelines and a mapped needs analysis
  • Integrate technical, safety, and development training calendar for APLNG DSO
  • Secure and manage contracts with external training service providers
  • Develop and maintain training external networks in order to keep abreast of technical training initiatives and legislation
About you
You will bring to the role:
  • Cultural alignment with Conoco Phillips’ SPIRIT Values
  • Vocational Competence – PMA Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology or above
  • Experience in managing technical training programs
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines with a high degree of accuracy, maintaining confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of training and development PMA framework, AQTF standards and training legislation.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across multiple disciplines and organizational boundaries coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Industry experience in a technical role within a major Hazard Facility (preferred)
  • Training Qualification - TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (preferred)
  • Experience in a supervisory/lead role, not necessarily in technical training (preferred)
  • Hydrocarbon/oil and gas technical training experience (preferred)
  • Higher qualification in training and development (preferred)
