Response & Connection Practitioner

Brisbane

PART TIME

September 12, 2024

About us
Victim Connect offers support to individuals affected by violent crime in Queensland, delivering information, guidance, referrals, specialist counseling, and case management services.

Position Overview
  • Employment Term: Permanent part-time (multiple opportunities available).
  • Location: Central Office (Brisbane, QLD)
  • Remuneration: Social Community Home Care Disability Award Level 4 (pay point dependent on qualifications and level of relevant experience). Superannuation.
As a Response & Connection Practitioner for Victim Connect, you will focus on providing high-quality support to Queenslanders who have been impacted by an interpersonal violent crime. Although no two days are the same, you can expect to assist inbound callers by providing crisis counselling, information, risk assessment and referral pathways for additional support, such as specialised counselling from our highly skilled Specialist Counsellors. The role works collaboratively with Queensland Police, Victims Assist Queensland, 54 Reason and other community services. It is important that our practitioners maintain and build positive working relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate smooth referral pathways for all clients accessing our service.
Victim Connect primarily engages and supports all people impacted by violent crime, regardless of whether the incident occurred recently or historically.
This service line is open 24/7/365.
Position Requirements
  • Completed tertiary qualification in Behavioural Science, Social Work, Human Services, or other relevant fields acceptable by DVConnect.
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in the social and community services sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people who have been impacted by violence, and an understanding of a trauma-informed approach is required.
  • Significant demonstrated ability to manage competing tasks within agreed timeframes, including planning, implementation, and coordination of practical support or case management.
  • Significant demonstrated experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
  • Confident and effective interpersonal, communication and consultation skills.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of intersectional feminist practice and other relevant practice frameworks used to respond to victims of violent crime.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding (or willingness to acquire) of the Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation and Queensland criminal justice legislation, including victim of crime and child protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners.
  • Demonstrated good cultural responsiveness and commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly competent IT and telephone skills.
  • Paid Blue Card and a satisfactory National Police Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing employment.
  • Right to work in Australia.
What's in it for you?
  • Salary package up to $15,990 per financial year.
  • Receive best practice clinical supervision and supportive 1:1 catch-ups with your direct line manager.
  • Access free professional and confidential mental health and wellbeing support for personal and work-related issues through EAP Brisbane.
  • Inclusive team environment.
  • Regular staff wellness activities.
For more information about the role, reach out to Nat on 0402 573 252 or recruitment@dvconnect.org.
Please note that while our standard practice is to communicate with all candidates about the status or outcome of their applications, we are currently only able to reach out to those who have been shortlisted. Thank you for your understanding.
Victim Connect is committed to helping all people who have been impacted by a violent or personal crime in Queensland and supporting their rights under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 and the Charter of Victims’ Rights. We respectfully acknowledge and celebrate the Traditional Custodians throughout the lands on which we live and work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
