ABOUT THE ROLE

An opportunity is available for a passionate historian or archivist with an interest in managing and curating museum collections to join The King’s School as School Historian.

As custodian of the School’s history and heritage, the School Historian will manage the School’s extensive collection of records and artifacts spanning the almost 200-year history of the School. A key focus over the next seven years is the preparation and conduct of events and activities linked to the School’s bicentenary in 2031. As the King’s School Archivist, the role ensures that records that have value as authentic evidence of administrative, corporate, cultural and intellectual activity are made, kept and used.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver engaging history and heritage programs for students of all ages.

  • Manage and maintain the school's archives and historical collections.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to coordinate heritage-related events, exhibitions, and commemorations.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate historical themes into the curriculum.

  • Foster a sense of pride and understanding of the school's history and traditions within the community.

  • Oversee the preservation and documentation of school artifacts, records, and memorabilia.

  • Engage with alumni to enrich the school's historical narrative.

To be successful in this role you will need to be able to demonstrate how you meet the following criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or proven industry experience in Archives, Records, Information Management or History
  • Membership of, or qualifications applicable to become a recognised professional or accredited professional member of the Australian Society of Archivists will be highly regarded
  • Understanding of industry guidelines and best practices in archival management
  • Experience with database management
  • Demonstrated experience in digital records management
  • Effective planning and development skills, including the ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office Suite, strong written communication and social media skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • A passion for history and education, with a creative approach to program development.
  • Experience working in a school environment is an advantage but not essential.
